When will Pelicans ask for new arena? It definitely will have to happen in the near future

New Orleans is a tourism and entertainment city, it would make sense to build a new arena even if we didn't have a team.

You would think with all the money tourism brings in we would’ve already had a new arena and stadium by now.

New arena will happen soon, they had an article out last year about new sites they were looking at

I will never understand. The arena seems fine.

Just a complete waste of money constantly building new stadiums and arenas.

Where would they build it? That location is perfect.

Bulldoze and move the team to Lakefront arena for a few seasons. Then rebuild at the same site.

Those UNO games will be electric, I guarantee it.

They would be better off making the Superdome a basketball arena again for a few years, like they did with the Jazz. UNO has a problem getting people to drive there and it capacity might be too small.
Also, I'll be shocked if the org can get a meaningful contribution from the state during the 4 years (or more) of the Landry admin.

Trying to set up the Superdome to be serviceable over 40 times a year for a modern NBA season would be logistical nightmare. UNO sits 10k. That's plenty for a team who is damn near last place in real fan attendance. UNO has a problem getting people to go there because they'd be watching fricking UNO. Put the Pelicans in an old school arena environment, and people are going to love it.

I agree. I don’t see the benefit in spending nearly a billion to build a pro arena. If the team isn’t good, people still won’t show up. It’s not going to bring in more FA’s, so what’s the real upside?

They already tried to make a push for it in the new River District area and it never got any traction.

Not sure if they have moved on from that but seems so.

We will see a big push for it from the team within 2 max. The Arena is a total dump.

If they don't get it, this team will not be here within a year or two of Gayle's passing.

Not that the Benson empire couldn't buy new property to revitalize with a state subsidy, but wasn't part of the justification of buying the Pels in the first place the synergy with existing Benson properties in the area near the arena?

We also have no clue about the useful lifespan of a new arena. They probably are financing around a business model expecting many decades of use, but will arenas be a thing in 10-20 years when VR or holographic projection is good enough that people can get a similar experience at home without the $12 beer?

Even if a new arena would still be viable, I'd kick that can down the road, you might want to build it totally different in 2030 than you would in 2025.

Look at what the Clippers did with their new Arena. They accounted for that.

There's essentially only a lower bowl and the seats are designed so everyone feels super close to the action. Wifi that actually works throughout, power plugs on most seats, double the amount of bathrooms/toilets of a normal arena, countdown clocks spanning everywhere to get people into seats, cashierless concessions etc

Forward thinking

The Pelicans proposed that to the city and state last year. They wanted a new Arena in the new River District to be a part of the footprint.

Instead I believe they are putting in a minor league soccer stadium and a Top Golf.

In Baton Rouge, some legislators resent the money devoted to the Dome and to
New Orleans, in general, Benson cut a very favorable deal for the Saints and his business interests.
It’s unclear to me whether a new arena is likely to happen. Whatever its faults, the SKC is not a dump. It’s
just plain, maybe.

Bro every neutral observer out there says its the worst arena in the league now. The players dislike it, the league dislikes it (we are unlikely to get many more All Star Games because of it).

It is outdated in every possible way compared to modern arenas.

It was built on the cheap in 99 and it shows
