But why would the Pels NOT want a guy who can offer that at that price?

I'm not saying I want a minimum guy over Lance at $6, minimum guys are what Lance was 4 years ago when he was a Hornet. I'm saying we have Cunningham already so what does paying Lance $6 get us? It's kind of why I never wanted Bazemore even for $15 because we had a similar if lesser player in QPon. I haven't heard our name attached to Dudley at all, I wonder if they see Lance as the bargain version of Dudley.

Right. He gets to 8 figures, no thank you.

But say he asks for $8M annually; that's slightly above the mid-level in $70M cap. That's an interesting price point and could see it both ways

LT has greatly improved himself over the past couple of years

This is his 2015 shot chart:

I would argue they need more guys who can play on the wing, even with some overlap.

Being able to play Holiday/Bazemore/QPon + Davis is attractive in 2016 NBA. They could conceivably go small w/ Holiday/QPon/Thomas/Cunningham/Davis. Considerably less attractive lineup, but that type of versatility/competence across the board is a plus.

I would prefer a more skilled guy, certainly. But that's not happening given the assets they have.

ETA- Basically, it's a single. We've talked a lot about how they just need to be patient. These types of moves are that. Not the splash that everyone always wants, but I would be happy with them.

I'd rather pay Hill 10-11 (assuming that's his asking) over Thomas at 8.

Bringing back Lance is a nothing move. He's a fringe player.

The reality is that mediocre guys are getting crazy overpaid so we may just have to wait another year before making a move.

They need a 3 who can guard big 3's and slot up to guard small ball 4's. They also probably need another 2/3 like Q-pon unless they are confident in his return. Looks like they will come away with at least someone who can play the 2. With Qpon and Reke injuries/potential trades, they need someone to start at 2 while Buddy acclimates.

Sweet Jesus. Our new finishing 5 could be Holiday/AD and 3 guys Demps pulled off the scrap heap. I'd rather Lance/EuroBig/Frazier over a Harrison Barnes max, but this is going to be one of those FA hauls where we're going to bitch about it until they start playing well in December/January. At least we had a good draft.

Are we not meeting with anyone of any significance?

And why is Portland and Memphis a place Parsons would consider for the max, but not N.O.? Or are we not willing to give him the max?

Sounds like we don't plan on doing shite in free agency, which i guess i'm fine with if we kind of suck again and get a good draft pick, look like we are on the up and up and then sign Westbrook next offseason.
Westbrook
Buddy
who cares
AD
who cares
A Westbrook/AD pick and roll would be dunks all day.
Just a dream.

Which is a patient move, which is what people said they wanted. Sometimes nothing moves turn out well; see Carroll/Bazemore to ATL and Pondexter to NO.

There is the rub.

The Pels will have to overpay next summer too. FA is a fool's gold for the Pels. And they don't have the assets (unless they hand out 1sts again) to make trades of note. They have to shuffle deck chairs and hope they hit.

Yeah. This is going to be a rough FA period for us. Bringing in a few fringe players for more than what they are worth in reality.

It really sucks being faced with the harsh reality that you're going to suck again, but maybe it's for the best long term

Memphis is an established playoff team with a Big 2 1/2 in Conley/Gasol/ZBo. Portland surprised everyone and appears to be well run and well coached. I'd also argue that unless you're a PG, Lillard is probably a more desirable teammate than AD at the present time. AD has had a few game winning shots in his career, Lillard has a few game winning shots probably every month. Generating wins is far more complicated than just hitting the last shot, but nothing is more celebrated in sport.

Agreed, if there weren't injury concerns with Holiday, New Orleans would be a much more attractive landing spot for free agents.

Not great, Bob.

If Lance Thomas is the only FA they sign, there is a huge problem. Say they get something like Henderson, Thomas, Rush and bring back Ennis/Frazier. Again, nothing to get too excited about, but solid depth and youth along the perimeter w/ a small 4 option. I like that outline more than a max for Chandler Parsons, his balky knees, and no depth (again).

They only way they compete for playoffs is Jrue/Davis stay healthy and ball out plus the rest of the roster becomes more than the sum of its parts.

It's crazy. Most people said they wanted Demps to be patient. To follow a Portland model, even. They just may do that and people will bitch because they couldn't get Parsons on a max. Or spend $17M to get Harkless on a RFA offer. It's wild how people talk themselves into things that were never likely to happen and then get upset.
