I mean we've all come up with myriad, realistic ways to improve the team but yet they can't make a single move? I know it's early but c'mon!

I don't really care about what the guy that gets Asik's alfredo thinks.

At this point I really don't see anything that raises our ceiling that much, maybe we should just hang onto our assets and try to swing something at the deadline or on draft night. It would be depressing but other than sending out a first for a 1 year rental of Lin I don't really see how to get this team that much better. Even Lin only makes us marginally better, he doesn't really vault us up. Maybe the smartest move is to be patient and wait for someone to get desperate and swoop in. Idk this is a tough spot

But have trade targets they think will improve the team by much more. So, that's what they are trying to do first.

I spoke to some people with the Pelicans and the general sense I get is they don't see themselves above the 7th seed in the West currently

Given their cap situation, they don't see anyone they can sign which really raises that ceiling. Nice pieces sure, but nothing changes much

They are working behind the scenes to improve this team in some way. They know they have to.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it inst happening. Doesn't mean it will work out, either.

But they see it as the best way to raise their (realistic/expected) ceiling.

If they thought any of these free agents (that they can afford, don't forget that) would improve them over other options they'd try and sign

I think there is some truth to this.

The trade market this summer seems to be drying up. but give the season some time and its inevitable some teams are going to be looking to go in different directions, and that means new sets of players up for grabs(also gives the Pels time to showcase some of our own assets).

I would argue two of Demps best moves came from such a situation.

Realistically, he isn't wrong. At full health

1. GSW
2. SA
3. HOU
4. OKC

are guaranteed to be better

5. Minnesota
6. Denver

are likely better as well (I think the addition of Millsap makes Denver a lot better than people think)

7. Utah
8. LA Clippers
9. Portland
10. Memphis

are in the same grouping as us, whether we come out on top or not, we'll see.

Full non-Bird exception. More than GSW could pay anyone else, as they're down to minimums otherwise.

How is Denver guaranteed to be better?

Utah lost their best player they will be worse. LAC will absolutely be much worse. Memphis will be worse.

The only guarntees ahead of the Pels are GS, SA, HOU and OKC. People are assuming Minny will be elite so quickly
