Hes had 3-5 tweets in a row about Lin now. I know he's talked him up for months, so that would make sense. Not sure Lin does much to move the Vegas odds though.

I think he does. He takes us from fringe playoff team, to very likely playoff team.

And right on cue he starts talking about Lin out of nowhere. That's the problem with MM, and probably the way he likes it, we never know if he's enlightening us or trolling us

I don't think he's trolling, he seriously has a man crush on Lin, and I'm sure the Pels have spoken to Brooklyn about a move. Can't make them make it, though.

He likes Lin, but I don't think he would say "I'd put my money on a move in the next 48 hours" and then go on talking about someone other than the guy we would be getting in that deal. I think he knows more. He did something similar with Perkins, started talking him up.

Cook and Toupane can't be traded until the 8th. I'm guessing that's the holdup and the reason for the 48 hour window given.

I don't think they matter unless sending Cook lowers the price to a 2nd. Lin makes $12 million even. That means we need to send out at least $6.8 million. Ajinca and QPon are all that is needed and QPon + Toupane + Cook is about $200k short.

I'm sure most if not all of us are itching for Dell to make a move, but I think Dell better than anyone knows that this summer is big for us. At the end of the day, I'd rather us spend no money than sign some mid-level player. If we can't get a player that is a clear upgrade that can bring us up to the next tier in the West, then do not force something to happen. If you can get a mid-level player (i.e. like Lin) for a good price I think its a win, but again don't force it.

Truthfully, he's a good combo guard who can give you a solid 20-25mpg. Shoots well, spaces well, and can run the point well. Defensively he's eh.

the obsession/infatuation is a bit too much though

These are both small sample sizes, just around 35 games each season, but the Linsanity year under D'Antoni and last year padding stats on a bad team when he was healthy, his per 36 numbers were 19.6/8.3 and 21.3/7.5. He also had a PER in the 19s both years. Again, small sample size and unusual circumstances, but a good bit above his career numbers. If that shows you peak Lin and not fluke Lin, and Uncle Al offers a system that plays to peak Lin's strength, then all of a sudden you have an above average scoring PG.

There's a lot of Ifs and *s in there, but it's not crazy to think we could get Linsanity. Also of note, while he was padding stats on a bad team in Brooklyn, he also was creating wins. They were .388 when Lin Played and .152 in games where he didn't play. That's the difference in a 12 win team vs. a 32 win team.

Marcus Smart. And the signings become official in 48 hours so Boston needs to clear the cap space.

I thought they could hold the paperwork if they want to do so. The moratorium on signings just ends in 48 hrs right?

I really don't either. MM seems to love him. Do I think he is a good player? Sure, offensively. Defensively, he is not special. I do not see how trading for him makes Vegas change their odds at all. He is a fringe starter. He is almost 29 and is a good, not great shooter. Personally, I would not want to give up a 1st for him unless heavily protected (or the deal included Asik). I also would not want to give up Diallo or Jackson.

Well I feel like trading for Lin is a low risk move. Lin has 2 years left on his contract and he is making $12 mil. If he doesn't work out next season I'm sure an expiring contract will look very appealing to numerous teams next summer

Where are you getting 6.8 mil? I'm getting 7 mil, which is outgoing salary plus 5 mil.

He would get more playing time on this team. I think he'd get 30 minutes, at least.

Those sneaky bastards.

That $6.5 million figure used to be $10 million. Ajinca and QPon it is then.

Lin isn't an all-star, but he provides a more than serviceable need.

Adding a starting PG is going to improve your odds at winning games. With a bunch of teams clumped together in the West, adding him would certainly improve the Pelicans odds of making the playoffs.

It's about fit and he fits what this offense needs. He's been at his best in the D'Antoni/Gentry offenses of the past. You can hide him on defense. He's also a smart player on a palatable contract.

I would be pretty happy if we landed Lin.

I'd get that shirsey for sure.

Yeah I hated the thought of Lin replacing Jrue but haVing him as a backup or even starting with Jrue as the two is pretty good.

I wasn't a huge fan of him replacing Jrue, but I agree that I'd like to see him in the backcourt starting next to him.

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.
