Rondo at $8M can’t even happen unless Boogie is allowed to walk and we don’t get salary back for him.

I think that’s what Oleh was hinting at with the non-taxpayer stuff, but the source for this rumor isn’t credible. Now maybe Rondo’s agent leaked it to signal the Pels need to pay him all that they can, but I don’t think another team is going to give him that much.

Maybe this is Rondo’s way of saying he’s ok if Boogie walks.

ETA: I would give Rondo our full Taxpayer MLE if it came down to that, that's about 2/$11. That's obviously not Plan A, but if we thought 2/$8 wasn't enough to keep him you have to do it. I just can't think of another player we could get in this terrible FA market that would have a bigger impact on the team than Rondo.

It only takes one but Indy is the only team I’ve seen that can pay him and there’d possibly be mutual interest.

If Indy tries to frick us in another free agent signing...

They also just drafted Holiday.

Right.

They already have Collison, Joseph, and Holiday.

I don't really see the need to add Rondo there.

If he wants 2/16, you can't really say he doesn't deserve it. Now, i don't want to pay him that, but i wouldn't be upset about it.

Well, we pretty much can't pay him that, so...

Is he that valuable to the Pelicans? Yes.

Is he that valuable to the majority of the NBA? No.

I do not believe his market value is 8 mil per year, so while he may be worth that to the Pels they won't have to pay that (not that they could anyway).

Who says no?

Pels acquire Otto Porter & Tomas Satoransky

Wizards acquire Tobias Harris and E'Twuan Moore

Clippers acquire Solomon Hill, Alexis Ajinca, Pels 2019 1st

Why Pels do it:

We get a solid backup PG in Sato that can operate within the offense when Rondo (assuming he re-signs) is off the floor. Also the wing that we need for this team in Otto Porter than can defend and shoot the three. It also allows us to keep Boogie if we need to and even stay below the apron in dealing Moore, Hill, and Ajinca. We can fill those spots with other exceptions.

Why the Wizard do it:

They get out from Porter's contract and get an expiring in Harris. They get a solid backup SG in Moore who would actually be a good fit on that team in my opinion. Harris gives them someone that can play the 4 in a small ball lineup. They already traded for Austin Rivers as a backup PG so losing Sato is palatable here.

Why the Clips do it:

They are clearly in a rebuild with trying to move Jordan, so they get a guy in Solo that play the 3 or small 4 alongside Gallinari. They can buyout Ajinca to create roster space and they get an additional pick for their troubles. They may need another pick to make it more enticing.

The Clippers have cleared 2 max spaces for next offseason. They are not taking on Hill's contract.

I think if they are out of it by January they'll be sellers, but as of right now 3-8 in the West is still up for grabs and I don't see why the Clippers would bow out now. Most teams have to be forced into a rebuild. They rarely embrace it like Philly did.

really the only teams willing to take on contracts like Solo are the Hawks and maybe the Bulls. Many other teams (like the Clippers) are trying to clear space & position themselves in a better financial position. This is all due to the absurd spending in the last couple of seasons, 2016 being the worst.

Not to mention the money doesn't work for the Pels. Porter is going to count as $28 mil due to his trade kicker plus Sat makes a total of $31 coming in. And if we only send out Moore, Solo, & Ajinca, only $25 mil coming off our books.

The Dallas Mavericks are actively exploring trade possibilities with the Los Angeles Clippers and the former All-N.B.A. center DeAndre Jordan in hopes of finding a workable deal to acquire Jordan this week, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

That shite is going down. If DJ goes to DAL and Kawhi gets traded to the Lakers, Boogie's leverage is kneecapped before July 1st.

Yea, that's really the ideal scenario for the Pels.

If that goes down, Boogie literally has no other options. Let me ask this. How much would you offer Boogie at that point?

maybe $25mil/3yr? With the 3rd year as a player option

If they could pay him a 2+1 starting at $25 million, it would be in the neighborhood of 3/$81 million. That would help with the Pels ability to potentially stay under tax with some work.

If that happens, I offer him something similar to what he was offered on that Mock offseason I mentioned earlier. 3/70 last season, 10 mil guaranteed.

No one else is going to have 20+ mil to offer him at that point.
