The NBA salary cap has risen to $70M for the 2015-'16 season, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Max expected was $70m. Does this affect us at all in terms of hard cap, or only some breathing room with regards to the tax?

ETA: $84.7m tax.

The hard cap would be at $88.7, $4 above the tax. It would take multiple lopsided trades to achieve that. I'm not sure how worried they are about it unless they have to match an offer on Cole.

Story going online with @ramonashelburne: DeAndre Jordan indicates to Clips he intends to stay BUT team reps not leaving DJ until he signs

Not great for Pels fans. Or fans of ~7 other Western Conference teams.

If we're not worried about being hardcapped, then why all the talk about possibly not using the remainder of the MLE/BAE?

Maybe they think Cole might get money. Even $5 million instead of $3 could change the comfort level with the hard cap.

All it takes is one team to offer him and I think he's gone
Ideally cole would sign his QO and we'd get another cheap year out of him
we will see I guess

I wonder if they knew about the 70MM/84MM if there's anything they'd have done differently (maybe more aggressively shop for a wing) with the full MLE

I was under the impression that using any of the remaining MLE or the BAE would hard cap us. So the extra $1m over the expected tax changes that?

I would love to be able to make a quasi-legit offer to KJ McDaniels or Darrell Arthur.

Technically it doesn't change, but practically it helps. Using those exceptions means we couldn't make any moves that take us above the Apron, which is $4 million above the tax, which is now $1 million higher than expected. We're at $77 and 10 players if Cole signs the QO. Add 3 minimum guys to get the roster to $13 and you're at $80. Use the remaining MLE and BAE instead for 2 of those guys and you're about $83 and can take about $5-$6 back in a trade.

Any lopsided trades would also put us in the tax meaning 125% rather than 150% in trades. Trade for Melo and his $22.8 you have to send out $18.25, a $4.5 million difference. Still below the Apron by a smidge.

actually, there's a chance CP3 and Blake could lead them to a 7 or 8 seed without Jordan. Mavs would also be a threat. Without Jordan, the Mavs are going to tank. one less team to worry about. better he stays in LAC. they still won't be any better than a 3-4 seed and second round exit.

Jordan is a bitch for backing out of this deal. That fact that he won't even tell the Mavs and Cuban that he backed out makes him an even bigger bitch

it's kinda ridiculous to open FA period and not allow them to sign. it's like high school recruits

Nah. This has been great. NBA is getting the publicity it wants and is dominating the sports cycle.

Emojis and meetings and hostage situations. NBA Twitter is going to need to check into rehab after today.

It might have made more sense to play looser w/ Asik/Ajinca with a $70M cap

I don't really care about this season besides making the playoffs (8 seed is fine) and growing some chemistry between Jrue, AD, and Asik. I think we would have made the playoffs no matter what happened with DJ.

This hurts us in future seasons in terms of competing for a championship. After this tomfoolery, LAC will be legit contenders until CP3 starts falling off significantly.
