I think they can figure out a way to keep BI and still get Dame.

then i'm down

my protests in this thread are giving up BI + young player + multiple 1st rounder/draft capital. that's too much

Unless we thought that Dame coming here would immediately put us in championship contention, then I agree

I tend to agree.
BI/#10/Kira/3 more firsts is more than what Brooklyn gave up for Harden, and we should be looking at something of similar value. the 3 firsts are equal to what Brooklyn gave up, but BI/Kira/#10 is better than Allen/LeVert.
I still say it would likely take
BI/#10/#35/Kira/4 firsts to make it happen.

I also think Portland could send CJ somewhere to get more assets, like sending him to Dallas for Porzingis, and they could probably get a 1st back doing that, and could easily go get Sexton for Kira and #10, or Kira and 2 later firsts.
Sexton
Simons
BI
Porzingis
Nurkic
That's not a bad team.....offensively.

But why would they want to do that? They’ve been in basketball purgatory for years and years. Now they’re going to sell their fans on a worse team without their superstar?

At that point, it’s easier to sell nuking the roster than putting out that group.

Do you think Portland fans would'nt be happy with a team that consistently makes the playoffs? You think they'd rather just suck royally for a few years in hopes they can draft another Lillard?
The Pacers are a similar team, in that their fans will enjoy a playoff caliber team year in and year out, knowing they will likely never win a championship.

That feels like a lot fo money tied up in those 4 dudes. I think just those 4 alone would take you over the cap once Sexton gets his deal, right?

my point was more that Portland could still field a roster that could win 45 games, while having a ton of assets to still work with for the future. I wasn't salary cap watching, and i usually do that.

1. I don't think that team consistently makes the playoffs.

2. I don't think Portland fans would be cool with consistently making the playoffs. That's what they do now.

From our perspective, consistently making the playoffs seems fantastic. From their perspective, it's a failure. They've made the playoffs for 8 straight years. That's not the measuring line for success for their fans anymore.

Dame and Zion gets you to the playoffs. Someone else is needed to win some series.

BI and the 10th pick and 1-2 1sts for Dame? Sure.
#10 and Kira/Naw &/or Jax and 4-5 future 1sts? Yeah Boy!
BI and (Kira/NAW &/or Jax) and #10 and 4-5 future1sts? Ehhh, probably not.

We need to have either Dame, Zion and BI teamed up or have enough assets to bring in another top level guy to pair with Dame and Zion.

I think if NAW got consistent run, he could average in the upper teens, and maybe even flirt with 20.

Unless Zo has to be part of the trade for Dame, if we get Dame, it becomes much more imperative to sign and keep Zo.

This x1000

"Hey Zion, we want you to play with the guys you like and show you that we can compete by getting Dame and keeping Lonzo"

Lonzo and Dame both hitting from 3 on the same night is game over. And Lonzo would get that many more catch and shoot 3s working off ball from dame/z pnr.

We aren't going to make a draft night trade that involves a S&T of Lonzo. I don't even think it's possible b/c it would mean the opposing team had conversations with Lonzo before FA opened up.
The draft is 7/29. FA starts on 8/3.

Even Mike fricking Greenberg of all people said today that New Orleans and Zion should be the place Dame should want to go win a title with OVER THE KNICKS

Something else nobody has really mentioned. If you deal for Dame and keep NAW, imagine NAW learning from Dame for 4-5 years. The league might very well be fricked for the next 12 years.

You're definitely dealing BI.

The best most feasible option is trading BI and keeping NAW and Jax. Trade Kira and 10 to them so they have younger pieces to help tank while BI puts up Beal numbers.
