Could we bring him in as an "assistant" right now with a wink wink nod nod?

Wow he’s a great young coach with ties to the pelicans. I would love for him to coach the pelicans next year.

That’s fine with me, if it means we can keep Gentry loyal guys like Vinson happy enough to sign with the Atkinson regime, give Gentry a ceremonial corner office for a million a year and get Atkinson on the first flight this offseason.

for the nets, signing kyrie Irving will turn out to be a franchise altering mistake. For Durant, leaving GSW will turn out to be career suicide.

pretty remarkable that both decisions happened in the same offseason and they haven’t even played a game yet together

two of the biggest douchebags on the league marooned on a sinking ship. You hate to see it

one more thing...our old friend and former hornet Sean marks catapulted himself into being GM-famous by rebuilding the nets without draft picks or cap space. I bet next year is his last with that team considering the bullshite that is coming his way

I would love to see the pels abandon the shot blocking center model, go all in on four out around zion and make a big offer to joe harris or try to swing a trade for dinwiddie or levert. Nobody wants to play with those two narcissistic clowns (Irving and Durant)

Do this.

Then Griff to Gentry:

Then Gentry to Gale:

I can't think of anyone with as good of a resume being available next offseason. Atkinson is only 52 so he could be here throughout Zion, Ball, and Ingram's primes. No more confused looks from players while Gentry draws up plays in crunch time.

I’m so psyched about this.

But I’m gonna be so pissed if it doesn’t happen.

Only thing I’d be a little concerned with is that the Nets only run like 0.4 post plays per game, and with Zion we obviously want to see him in the post more than that. But maybe it was just a personal situation and he would be able to adapt his offense

I’d think the Bulls are gonna have sights on him too.

Bulls definitely will. But why we he choose them over us?

The only question is...does someone try and strike right now.

Someone probably will, but I'd have to think Kenny would want to wait until the offseason to see what jobs would be available to him

I’m sure they will.
yet, Atkinson will have options

one of those options will be joining a team with a roster bereft of talent, a brand new GM who has never run a team before, agency (CAA) politics rampant and the single worst owner in pro sports who is opening antagonizing his fans.

other options might be young teams with building blocks, stable ownership and a clear vision in the front office.

You have to hope that a situation like this impresses upon someone like Atkinson the need to pick your situation wisely.

If he has any inkling that the Pels might have interest, but he decides to go to Chicago or the first offer from some mediocre team with questionable leadership, it would honestly change my opinion on Atkinson.

Part of being a great coach is knowing the situations to leverage yourself into, I would honestly question his judgement if he made any decision before the season was over, let alone to join a floundering franchise like the Knicks or the Bulls.

At this point, I’d be suspicious of any coach that DIDN’T have a problem with Krazy Kyrie.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Gentry moved to FO and Finch promoted internally to keep guys like Vinson or McMillan around. I’m sure Bzdelik would get a larger role in year 2 too if he doesn’t leave for elsewhere.

Edit: of course if Griff has a Completely different vision, I’m sure we’ll find out this summer.

Sean Marks having a PC now:

Timing now to let Kenny have the opportunity to catch on somewhere else.

He says it has nothing to do with the players. It was between Kenny, himself and ownership.

Says he would have loved to see Kenny coach KD and Kyrie.

It was time for another voice in the locker room.

He really made it sound like Kenny asked out
