Why Dallas went after Naji,
to save $1M/yr?
seems rather odd to me. Either they didn't like Derrick Jones that much, or he didn't like them, b/c if they liked each other, he'd be playing in Dallas with that contract, not Naji.

At what point does Detroit start eating contracts to a serious degree to hit the salary floor?
I can see them taking Lavine.

Kinda settling on the idea that the Center BI will garner for us probably isnt a needle mover.
You should have always been there. Unicorn or Center Committee, Jarrett Allen doesn’t fit either.

He changed agents right before the new season on Jul 1st, which hamstrung the Mavs some in dealing with Jones.

Again I’ll ask.
Is Lauri worth Ingram, CJ, one of Trey or Herb, and 5 1sts to you? Because that’s ultimately what it will cost you.
We simply cannot afford Zion at 40, Lauri at 50, Murray at 30 and Trey at 35. There would be nothing left to fill out the roster

Ainge isn't getting this from anyone of equivocal trade caliber so I already reject this question.
If he is letting go of Lauri, he wants to take the OKC approach of stockpiling picks to the moon.
If anything I forgot to include Huerter to Jazz from the BI portion to SAC.
None of it matters though, just a pipe dream :) .

You actually can! At first I thought the same thing. This would simply require sending CJ out for picks next offseason.

We actually can’t. That’s 155 million in salary. Add Herb at 14 million and you’re already pushing against the tax.
Now add Hawk at 5 million, Missi at 5 million and you’re in the tax with only 7 people on the roster. In order to fill out the roster you’re a second apron team, and we still don’t even have a starting center. We will never be a second apron team, so Lauri is unrealistic.
You could keep Trey but you would have to send out Herb and take back a few 5-6 million dollar guys and then fill out the rest of the roster with minimums

His cap charge this year is 18million

Im missing the two rookies. 1st apron is 178m right?

Correct. Look at next year when he will demand a full max though. That’s when you will have to send out CJ and lose one of Herb or Trey.
That’s why i said ultimately it will cost you BI, CJ and one of Herb or Trey along with 4-5 picks. You don’t trade that for prime Lebron much less fricking Lauri

Sending out CJ's contract to a team willing to buy it for space allows Trey and Lauri extension to work.
You can also send out Barnes contract for more space and back fill with rookies/vet min if you really wanted to go that route. We would just become a top heavy team.

Do you not know how math works? I literally laid it all out for you. You can have a team of
Zion
Lauri
Murray
Trey
Herb
Hawk
Missi
You’re already in the tax next season. You still have to find a starting center because Missi won’t be ready, so that pushes you into the first apron. Now you have 6 roster spots you HAVE to fill with minimum contracts, that pushes you into the second apron.
It’s simply not feasible unless you are willing to lose either Herb or Trey along with CJ AND BI, ALONG with all those picks. You have to look big picture, and there are ZERO universes where you lose all of that for a guy that will be your 3rd option at best
You’re only other option is to just let Lauri walk after one year, and now you’ve done traded Ingram and 5 picks for one year of a player
Zion
Lauri
Murray
Trey

Not for Lauri. frick that. He's injury prone as well too and he's not a max pf.
I wish teams start to actually pay players their worth and not just max them. If they play 50 games a year and put up 20/10, they shouldn't deserve a 50mil max. Maybe more like 40 but stupidity reigns and they'll just give 50

In the year 2025-26
Removing CJ for Picks and taking no Salary back, you have under contract 10 players:
Yves (5.1 I think is rookie 2nd year, 3.2 currently for first year)
Reeves
Murray
Barnes
Markkanen (using Siakams deal as an example 42/45/49/52
Kessler
Zion
Herb
Trey (27m a year AVG)
Hawk
For a Total of: 174.1m
The first apron for 25-26 is roughly 198m
Which leaves us roughly 23.9m to sign spots 11-14 on our roster that year. This also doesn't factor in the possibility of sending out Barnes for picks or players as well.
So yeah im kinda curious why you seem to feel this is still difficult?
I dont expect the Pelicans to gain the ability to offer Zion a third contract so im gonna go out with a bang before a hard reset looms on the horizon.
