And because Ingram is kind of not good at winning games, those 4 picks may end up having real value.
Trading Ingram for picks is the perfect crime.

We would do better trading for B.I. for Dejounte and using the money saved from not getting Trae, on trying to sign NIc Claxton. Draft Tyler Smith and then use whatever picks you got left to make a big trade involving CJ to get a better 2guard.

It will require Herb Jones.. and that’s just the starting point. Ingram, herb and a BUNCH of pics. ONLY if the spurs aren’t willing to unload their picks/Hawks looking for more players than picks. They have us beat. Or more picks and Ingram and CJ with CJ going to a third team and a crap load of picks back to Hawks.
I’ve read the Spurs weren’t interested in Trae. Who would be the main piece going back? Problem is the league is flooded with pgs and centers. Not many teams will be interested in him b/c they already have their pg or they’d have to rearrange their roster to fit him in. We just saw what a very good not great wing went for. I don’t think Trae gets a haul like that.

Having to include Brandon and Herb in any deal for Trae is ridiculous. I believe Trae has reached his ceiling already. He's a finished product and but for fortuitous breaks with teams having injuries the year the Hawks made it to the conference finals, they haven't come close to that again.
The ONLY team I see Trae being ok with to try to win a champioship is with the Spurs and Wemby being able to cover for Trae and be a paint protector.
Plus, Trae is not a Top 20 player in the NBA. Probably not top 30. Hard pass

They will get a ransom. Because their hands aren’t forced to trade Trae at the moment. Their just exploring unless something pops off like the Mikal trade and blows their mind. We have the ammo to pull it off. It just depends if Griff is willing to trade away what he worked so hard building up - for someone he normally wouldn’t trade for.
Zion has the say so. If they’re committed to him, you basically have to obey by his orders. And he has to approve of who you would be sending out incase you take a step back on defense temporarily.
I wouldn’t mortgage my entire future. But when the time is up, you are getting rewarded for both Zion, trae, Murphy, herb, or whoever else is still on the team by then. If you blow it up, you gotta blow it up… take the chance and go for it. It will be on the top of his resume.
I think the starting package is Ingram, Herb, 4 first rounders (one top 3 and 3 unprotected, and two pick swaps. I think they would take that, and I can’t see the spurs beating that because of Herb Jones.
Question is, is it worth trading away Herb?

Herb is not worth including in B.I. trade for Trae. Trae is not a Top 20 player to me and what type of team will we be able to surround ZIon and Trae with.. That's why I rather Dejounte and go sign NIc Claxton.
Dejounte
Herb
Trey Murphy
Zion
Nic Claxton
CJ--- but Im looking to trade him at the deadline for a core piece for the future. You don't need a starter at this point. You can find your 6th man and another valuable role player.
Jose
Hawk
#21 pick
Dyson??
I rather build a team around the above. It's one that can financially stay together and its one that plays Defense,

Y’all see why I said 4-5 picks.. griff isn’t doing that.

Is Trae really worth that? Man that’s a huge haul. I hate to lose Herb but you put your faith in Dyson and go for it. Drafting Dyson makes Herb easier to move. I think mainly you have to get another All-NBA level player. Trae is probably the best chance you’ll ever have.

quote:The thing is, neither the Lakers or the Spurs have the combination of players and picks that we have. Neither have a player the caliber of BI along with multiple 1st rounders. I think the issue would be more Griffin than the assets.
Sadly, it will just take a lot more.. like everyone else, the Hawks are trying to improve for the future. I think for what he will be traded for, we just won’t pull the trigger. Everything that I mentioned earlier literally has to happen. It’s the most possible it’s ever been for a star and it’s exciting for everyone. I just don’t think Griffin has the balls to use the war chest AND players on this specific player. I really hope he does. We, as fans, know that these are the funnest times in basketball as a small market. We have been blessed so far with multiple stars over the years. Let’s look at playing for fans and the team and get the fan base up. If it doesn’t work out, he can still get you decent returns.
And yes.

The only way I can see Hawks demanding less is if they grant his request and the Hawks have a plan in place to replace his salary. Instead, I just see them doing a complete old school reset and acquire as much future ammo as they could.

And does what? Can barely score on offense and make the play-in? And why do finances even matter here- the goal is to win.

Man, Dyson wont ever reach Herb's level. a 40% 3 and D, 1st team ALL NBA?? Herb has not realized all of his potential. Herb can honestly be a version of Scottie Pippen. Real talk.

So B.I. and the best defender in the NBA on the perimeter and maybe all of basketball, for Trae and picks on top of that? lol. That's putting a lot of faith in another player thats OFTEN INJURED too!

Other than this past season how has Trae been often injured???

That’s what it would take for them to say yes right now in this moment. They aren’t in a rush. You basically have to nuke them to stop the trade exploring.
Posted on 6/26/24 at 12:19 am to Pels_Yaz
With B.I. gone, it opens up for Herb to produce more on offense. Herb played point forward for Bama. He's about to be a fixture for All-Defense for the next 5 years if he is on a team worth a damn. Herb can average 17 easily.
Herb would be the the chief reason the Pels, if ever, would come close to winning a championship.
Pippen is hyperbole, but you get my point.

Herb has consistently averaged 9-11 pts the past 3 years. You think he can just easily take a 6 point jump and average 17??!!
I love Herb Jones but this thought that hes going to average near 17 points with BI gone is not realistic by any means.

Then don’t make a trade tomorrow….i can’t see a good reason to trade Ingram for Murray exactly right now.
ATL will figure out their first pick situation and it likely won’t involve Murray.
We will draft someone at 21…and just see how things turn out. The other suitors for Trae don’t need to make an immediate decision anyway.
The Lakers have jack shite to offer ATL…
The Spurs don’t need to include this years picks to make a Trae deal happen. I know ATL wants to trade back and still take Clingan, but why should the Spurs care if someone trades up into the top 3 to take him. ATL would be playing with fire if that’s the guy they really want.
Just wait till FA comes around and see where pieces fall. If Trae still want out, then make your move then.
