Of fricking course EJ Liddell is killing it. Why we signed then never played him is one of the most baffling things the organization has ever done

Pretty sure he was injured. And then was outplayed by JRE when he was healthy.

We never played him because he wasn't necessarily playable.

He was healthy all year and played reallly well in the gleague. He got hurt his rookie year. Tough to say he was outplayed by anyone in the nba given he played like 16 minutes all season in like 2 minute intervals.

That first game his numbers weren’t great but his overall play was received well by hawks writers. Then he had 22/5 with 4 blocks. If missi did that we’d be feeling very positive.

Killing it for EJ Liddell is simply playing starter caliber basketball. These things are graded on a curve

He played 24 total minutes and doesn't have a single stat that shows anything of importance.

IMO if you aren't good enough to play in the NBA (only getting 24 total minutes) then you've been "outplayed" by default.

He's about to turn 24. I'd hope he does well against guys 4-5 years younger than him in Summer League after 2 seasons on an NBA roster.

Orlando Robinson is killing it.

I wonder if he would sign a two way.

EJ will never start an NBA game in his life

You can't be serious. That's so far down the line of baffling things it's not even worth mentioning.

Yeah, that was a bit of morning hyperbole from me. These things happen

ETA:although signing a guy to a deal in his 2nd year, not playing him, then trading him is an odd practice

I mean what good is having a gleague team if we aren’t going to try out the guys who play well? Guy averaged 18/8 at 50.4% with 2 blocks a game. There was also a time when nance was getting all the center minutes and I kept asking why we wouldn’t try out EJ. So it goes back a little bit for me

EJ is not a center. He is 6'6". Most have great stats in the GLeague.

I don't think you get the point.

1. Summer League does not always translate to NBA level, against NBA players.

2. He's just not that good. The reason "he didn't play" over JRE is because he wasn't good.

You keep saying he only played garbage time without acknowledging that he was shite in garbage time against shite players.

When you put in your garbage time players and the other teams garbage players outpkay them then its pretty telling.

I’m just not acknowledging his nba minutes from this past season because the sample size isn’t there so what’s the point?

ETA: I don’t think EJ Liddell is a difference maker guys. I saw an article on my drive that said he had 22 points and 4 blocks and made a throw away comment.

Bruh what? You aren't acknowledging WHY the sample size isn't there.

I should be in the NBA. My sample size isn't there but I deserve to be there. The only reason I'm not in the NBA is because I haven't been able to get minutes in the NBA. It has nothing to do with the fact that I'm not good enough...

They just gave Karlo a contract after he played for the Squadron. You're a Pels fan, you have plenty of things to complain about. "Missing" EJ Liddell is not one of them. Step back from the ledge son

It was obvious within the first 30 seconds of his first summer league game that EJ Liddell would never be an NBA player. He's small, slow, not very athletic and just looked like he did not belong.

I'm still shocked we gave him a sympathy contract, because that's all it was.

Signing Omer Asik didn’t make me jump, I think I’ll survive.

I’m arguing about a guy who I think maxes out as a 6th man type dude for a ceiling. I realize I said he was killing it, but that’s because I didn’t expect him to do anything of note all summer

Take EJ completely out of the conversation for a minute here.

Are you trying to say that every player who can’t get minutes with their first team isn’t worthy of minutes in general?

No. I'm saying for this specific situation he (EJ Lidell) was not good enough and that's the reason why.

You are trying to say "well if he did get minutes he'd be better".

No. Those players exist, EJ Lidell is not one of them. Atleast he wasn't in the (2) years he was here.

He was outplayed by JRE in limited minutes and probably in practice.

Nah dude, I’m just saying it would have been nice to see him play for a couple of 5-6 minute stretches during garbage time to see if his gleague stats were really a reflection of his skill. I’m making no claims about how good I think he is, but everyone has a ceiling

You can only go off of the stats we have. We don’t watch them practice so neither of us has any clue who’s outplaying who in the facility

Yes I agree. That's why I'm basing my opinion off obvious observation.

The fact that Lidell did not get more playing time than JRE tells me that JRE did most likely outperform Liddell in practice.

EJ's sample size shows me (2) things.

1. He clearly didn't do anything special with the few minutes he had.
2. He clearly wasn't good enough to get more minutes from practice or going up against our other players.

I was one of the fans in support of that pick and his potential.

We drafted him for his defense and to be a bruiser. It was another Herb type pick. He was Big 10 all defense, etccccc. He's not that guy, Its that simple.

The shitty thing is I do believe Robbins is that guy, he just can't stay healthy.
