then the issue will be we used next year’s first in Queen instead of upgrading the center position.

There's already a 50% chance if not more that Queen ends up at center. He's taller than Looney and only 1" shorter than Missi while still being young enough to grow.

So your concern is that we drafted a lottery pick center instead of waiting next year and possibly risk picking a center outside of the lottery if we stay decently healthy.

The reports after the draft were that we had Fears at #5 and Queen at #6 on our draft board. If that's true, then the decision to move up to get Queen was the correct decision, because giving up next year's pick for the #6 player in the draft is the smart choice. T

We are potentially a really bad team. Next year's drat is supposed to be much better than the 2025 draft In no way is that a smart choice.

The comparable 5/6 in 2026 is going to be MUCH more valuable than the 5/6 in 2025.

Troy Weaver has scouted Derik Queen much more and knows him much better than we do.

Troy Weaver isn't exactly a proven expert in draft evaluation and he clearly has a bias that affected his eval of Queen.

The trade is also good in that it signals to fans that they can buy season tickets without worrying that we're going to tank again. They can purchase with confidence that the team will be doing everything it can to win games, all the way to the end of the season. That's something that the fanbase needs.

Of all the things without value to use to evaluate the trade, this may be near the top of the list

LOL. His "bias" is that he had scouted Queen very extensively and knows him very well. Do you know what "bias" means?

Troy Weaver is biased towards the DMV.

C'mon, man. You aren't this stupid. His "bias" is choosing players he knows well and has heavily scouted. Such an approach has its drawbacks, to be sure, but the flipside is we're unlikely to end up with another draft pick like Jaxson Hayes.

HUGE "ifs" to justify the trade, which is exactly why it was such a bad trade.

Agreed

And you judge the trade at the time it's done, not with hindsight bias

Ok, you just lost all credibility. If Queen turns into an all star, then you have to admit you were wrong. So you make up BS reasoning why you can't be wrong in hindsight?!

Lol at pretending that the absolute dumbest crap is a hard truth. People need to quit listening to the nattering nabobs of negativism.

Lol. Looks like everything they said was 100% spot on.

And the only guy they shite on more than Dumars was fired. So now we have the worse GM in the league.

From the looks of it, we may still have had the worst in the league even with Nico employed

You're being dramatic. We are fine with Looney, Missi, Queen and Matkovic.

Looney is only 29! He's not some graybeard. If you watched Melbourne games, you'd see that that he is anything but washed. He's better than Missi, which is why he was starting.

And Missi is better than the version of him we got last season. You can see that he's clearly stronger, which should result in better defensive rebounding.

You are correct that Queen and Matkovic are not true centers, but they are definitely capable of playing the position if necessary. And I liked Hunter Dickinson's minutes in Melbourne. He's on a two-way right now, but I think that he eventually earns a standard NBA contract.

We do not have a bottom-5 center rotation.

Holy shite.

I know this is old bit damn.

I didn’t check the dates on any of the first posts and I was so fricking confused

Also, Queen is awesome and we all still think the trade sucked. That’s how bad the trade was.
