If tweet fails to load, click here. I wonder how many superstars will be following suit soon after seeing Brunson and now Wemby leaving tens of millions on the table.

Wonder how many new Kawhi-like side deals will be taking place?

He didn't take a pay cut. He opted to forgo the SuperMax in favor of the Max.
Noble? Yes, but it was still a record rookie extension.
Pay cut? As you said, he left millions on the table for the betterment of the team, but he didn't take a pay cut in the least.

Poor guy, I hope he survives.

Oh he’s getting that money back from endorsements and championship checks when they keep their core and win multiple championships.

A pay cut, by definition, is giving up pay you already have or previously agreed to. Neither is true as he is currently on his rookie contract and will continue to be for the upcoming year. His Max extension goes into effect in '27-'28. So, he gave up nothing other than the right to negotiate for a SuperMax contract.

This is gay. Just shows you how little confidence he has in himself after he blew the Finals. With Brunson, it was different bc his dad is a Coach on the Knicks and he was a 2nd Rd pick, taking $100M less on what might be his best opportunity at a huge contract if things didn't work out. That took balls. Wemby is a giant pussy.

Lol how you get mad for another man's decision. And then justify it by bringing in another man's decision.

I think I'm allowed to hate on Wemby due to A) being a division rival B) being a political tool in his press conferences C) being a dirty player D) being a soft front runner that chokes E) Being unoriginal and copying Brunson to build up his good guy/good teammate/only care about winning facade

I think there is another alternative that hasn't been brought up. Maybe the Spurs were not willing to give the full Supermax, so Wemby had to take the deal they offered him.
People don't want to admit this, but Wembenyama is going to have a short, injury riddled career. He needs to guarantee as much money as possible now before those injuries start pilling up. This was the safe play for both sides.

They did though, Shams even says it in the linked tweet..

How will he ever survive on that?

I would take a few million less if I was in a competent organization where they would use the money to get better players. I’d squeeze the Pelicans for every nickel. Because you know it’ll wasted on players like Poole.

Brunson, took the max he could the year he signed, no idea how the media is running with the he took a pay cut angle....the "pay cut" is referencing if he would have waited another year and risked injury, then he could have signed for significantly more.... Imagine him passing iit up and getting hurt like Isaiah Thomas did with the Celtics and never getting a big contract
