Are you freaking insane. And I think we only have one Milwaukee pick left, the most valuable one.

Yeah Griff did an excellent job of trading Jrue for 3 worthless lottery tickets and then used 2 out of the 3 lottery tickets in moves like picking up D Graham and laddering out of the bullshite Steven Adams acquisition, that we also burned another pick on, in the front end.
Masterclass asset management by Griff. We really don’t have that many picks left to fool around with at this point.

That was absolutely terrible, and if that happened I’d officially quit being a fan of the Pelicans.

I love all the downvotes but I would like some of you to offer your own plans up for critcism.
Construct your team under the principles of:
1) Never paying the Tax
2) Keeping the Core of CJ/BI/Zion for the next two years
3) Rim protection
4) Being able to pay Herb/Trey
5) Actually trying to win a NBA Title.

1 + 2 + 4 don't go together, financially impossible.
At some point - CJ needs to be moved or paid less by the time Herb & TM3 get paid.

Actually its not. Ive already done the math
This team will be very VERY top heavy in 2025, but CJ will come off the books in 2026 and we pretty much have no clue what BI is going to do.

When the only choices are bad choices, sometimes you're better off not choosing.
Seriously, that's what good teams do, they are patient and wait for the right deal. Unfortunately I don't think Griff has that kind of time and I also don't think you're going to get Willie to change what he does enough to make JV a net positive rather than a net negative. They have to do something at center.
We'll probably end up with some underwhelming trade like trading JV for a Plumlee, but something underwhelming could work. We don't need to upgrade JV, we need someone that can fit with Willie and brings more size/rebounding than Larry.

Yes ATL I agree sometimes the best option is to not play at all.

Just having all of your own picks is enough to get virtually any person you want in terms of draft capital. And we have all of them plus I believe 2 additional picks and 2 or 3 more swaps. That's still a lot.

I think it also says something that we have a bunch of players none of us want to trade. The last 2 drafts they've brought in 4 players most of us view as "untouchable". A lot of people don't even like the idea of trading Naji
I think Trey is the only actual untouchable of the 4, but if you use the same philosophy to draft a player at 14 that fits how this team is able to develop, ie no raw guys, then you might have a 5th "untouchable" player to trade.

Ok in keeping a core of the 3: Zion, BI, and CJ for the next 2 years, yeah its possible because they're under contract for another 2 years (well TM3 is; herb is up after this year).
Beyond that, not possible without going into the tax unless our plan is to fill 6-10 with minimum guys.

The new TV deal and cap bump in 24-25 will give them some room, but at some point they're going to need to replace CJ with someone cheaper. Fortunately with what CJ's role should be, Trey can take his place as #3 in the offense. Then dump CJ and replace him with a bench scorer/shooter making about $15-$20 million less.

They need Daniels develop and take the reigns from CJ in the next 2 years. That's the optimal path.

I would, just not the core that most mean. I would keep Murphy, Jones, Alvarado and Daniels, build around that group.
McCollum, Zion and Ingram should bring a nice collection of picks. We'd be way under the cap. We could do an OKC level reset plus keep the players I like the most..

This is so awful it hurts to read. You really want Herb playing PG? Really?

No you moron I want him to initiate the offense from time to time and play positionless basketball like the Pelicans have done all year.

For some reason...many folks are just hung up on thinking we need a classic "PG". With out roster, we have several players that can do just fine initiating the offense. It should be one of our main strengths to have a fairly big player at the "1" position...assuming we feel we MUST designate a certain player to be playing that "PG" position.
