this is the smartest most in-depth look-ahead i've read, rightly beginning & ending with the fact that everything depends on and is filtered thru the plan of keeping davis in new orleans

way too much to quote or paraphrase...42 goes long on ownership, front office, coaching, the offseason, players, the cap/tax, marketing, awards, etc...

LINK

read it and be better informed

You are right... it is a must read. But people won't.

I wrote for years and you can write the most brilliant article and it will get 1/10th as many views as if I want on there right now and posted an article with five trade ideas. Its unfortunate. But I am glad at least one person read it.

I'm reading it right now. I've never been a fan of 42's writing style but it is a good article.

Recommend that everyone at least skims it.

Guessing after skimming the first 1,500 words that the Pels signed Oddysius off waivers from Greece.

and here's kushner (thank christ for him), echoing this as clearly as is possible:

quote:

In an 82-game season, great moments and impressive performances will get lost along the way. But, climbing into the minds of the NBA’s audience means something, even if most pundits can’t decide where to place the Pelicans in Western Conference predictions. Although, polishing off last year’s No. 1 seed in emphatic fashion caused some social media whiplash just two days into the league’s new calendar.

quote:

And that’s why these types of events matter. And why the Pelicans need to continue to position themselves for nights like this, even while representing the league’s smallest media market. This is how the Pelicans can keep Davis, and persuade him to sign a five-year "super-max" extension worth nearly $140 million this summer. While it’s a birth right in Boston and Los Angeles, it must be earned in New Orleans. And it’s why this shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Started reading, but very wordy. Needs to get to the point to hold interest.

Why does 42 have to add an extra thought detail to every sentence?

"The New Orleans (at least for now) Pelicans will hope that the 26 year old (hard to believe, right!?) Anthony Davis can carry his team -- and he's finally embracing that role -- to new heights (watch out, GSW!), despite having a weak bench (why do they call it a bench? it's folding chairs...)

If that’s the way (reminds me I have to weigh in today) that article reads (that’s ridiculous) I’m definitely not going to read it (unless I’m bored).

It’s a really good read, but it definitely needs to be proofed.

Great great article. Exactly the type of article we need. Here's to hoping we don't see any sign-and-trade junk this year.

So I’m a decent pels fan. By that I mean I know the players and coaches and follow them relatively closely but I’m definitely not as big of a pens fan as some of you.

I read the first 2 sections of that article and good god does that guy ramble. He could have the cure for cancer in the middle of that article and I’d never get to it cuz I’d get lost trying to sift through his nonsense.

He takes points that can be explained in 2 or 3 sentences and expands them into 2 or 3 wordy, unnecessary paragraphs.

Cliffs would be greatly appreciated.

solid stuff overall. defense being the identity and as much of the Cousins stuff as I could actually read was good. dude could certainly use an editor

as his wont, he is forever a martyr and a genius.

quote:

there are still lazy takes and typical disparagement from those who have to resort to such things because there are not legitimate criticisms they are qualified to make, but in the circles that matter, the Pelicans have certainly found themselves coming up in the world.

i dont think he's wrong about the team's rep going up. same time, "circles that matter?" sheesh

quote:

Dell is steadily becoming not just a veteran General Manager, but a brand unto himself, an individuated figure to be studied, appreciated, admired, and interacted with as opposed to just another guy with a desk, a phone, and a blue ink pen.

the entire Demps section was largely a hagiography. this was particularly appalling. you don't throw the baby out with the bath water on the entire article, but holy shite.
