Honest question for the board. Is something just off with Pels training staff? Team's season is borderline historical in terms of injuries. You can write it off as bad luck, but doesn't conditioning help prevent injuries? Griff said they spared no expense for facilities/staff, even bringing in Nelson. They may want to revisit this again because it's at the point Pels are getting a reputation for bad injury JuJu. And why are they so little (bulk) position for position compared to most NBA teams? Except for Zion, Adams, and Val they line up looking like the JV team against the Varsity. I do now have more appreciation for their 49 win season last year.

We tend to either draft severely overweight or severely underweight prospects

I believe that is part of the issue

It would be nice to draft/bring in the occasional guy that looks like he’s seen the inside of a weight room

I also believe we have some undeniable bad luck that factors in.

For sure, but its like Pels conditioning methods are from the middle ages when weight-lifting was deemed bad for basketball flexibility.

Time for a rebrand.

If it was a bunch of pulled hamstrings and groins, I'd say yes. Missi hyperextended a knee, BI sprained an ankle, Murray tore his Achilles and broke his hand, Herb tore a labrum. None of those injuries have much to do with strength and conditioning.

I'm kind of undecided, players seem to be laboring prior to injuries. Missi hasn't looked right for two weeks, BI showed samed indications before Orlando injury and Zion hitting the hardwood frequently on drives has been a clear indicator of his conditioning since he arrived.

Agree, Murray and Herb's injuries were not conditioning-related, but the eye test just seems to point to Pels being 10lb-15lb lighter per position (excluding Zion, Val, and Adams) and they can't withstand the rigors of an 82 game NBA schedule. I should note that TM3 appears noticeably bigger since he came to the team but still has a light frame for his position.

I don't know but, I would love to see the team ownership put incentives into keeping players in the off-season to stay in NOLA and work out, run line drills, practice and build chemistry do local charity work, have basketball camps, fishing trips, et al.

I guess it just different times.

They may not have done as many public activities as you're outlining, but this was the most I've seen a large contingent of players, including your star, spend so much of the summer in New Orleans working out. What do we get for that? The most injured season in history.

Some of Griff's comments from the other day included that they are monitoring Zion's work load in detail with some of the newer sports science monitoring tech and they are using that to manage his minutes. Knowing Griff that could have been a lie to cover the tank, but I see no reason for that to not be true.

I'm not saying there is no better way to handle these injuries, but the training seems to both change and improve each year, so I'm not sure what else they can really do.

My questions are more related to what methods players are using to train. Seems like a lot of emphasis on skill training? Are traditional conditioning and strength routines like running hills, plyometrics, free weights etc. even a thing any longer? Pels players recently seemed dumbfounded on the need for stretching regimens, so there's that.

They have to find a way to have them ready to go. Physically and mentally.

His injury looks to be minor. That's great news. He's questionable for the Mavs game.
