I don't think it matters much.

Try to work a deal with Charlotte. If that doesn't work, they don't take Scoot, so now you have a 2nd shot to try to work a deal with Portland.

I'd prefer Charlotte NOT want Miller over Scoot. If they think Miller is their man over Scoot...gonna be tougher to trade with them for 2-spot. If they liked Scoot as their best available talent, might be easier to deal with them since Scoot is NOT a good "fit" for them. Whatever happens, Miller is the better "fit", for Charlotte.

I don't think it matters much.

Portland's way more likely to trade out of the pick or even trade Scoot after they've drafted him but Lillard demands they trade him away for Zion.

Miller has been projected to go #2 for months. Pre-lottery

scoot Lmelo doesn't really fit, but he also doesn't fit in portland with DL, Simmons, and Sharpe.
Portland will trade someone if they dont trade the pick. may only be sharpe.
Zion fits for both.

It is cheaper to get the #3 than the #2

The attraction for Portland is that Zion is an ideal partner for Dame. They each space the floor perfectly for each other and prevent double-teams. Portland wants to be competitive again, and acquiring Zion is the way to do that. A team with a healthy Dame and Zion is a surefire playoff team (although probably not a contender).

Previous Draft Haul for #4 pick
Just for reference, we traded the #4 pick for 8, 17, 34 and salary cap space. It may not be out of the realm of possibility to get #3 for something like Daniels, 14 and a future first.

It is. Every draft is not the same. The value here at 3 is much higher than the value at 4 when we moved it. Imagine trying to trade for the 2 spot with Ja that year. I would state this supposed spot has as much if not more value than that.

You can't compare drafts like that. Each draft has a set of talent tiers and it is very expensive to tier jump which is why it rarely happens.
The Pels traded back in that draft because they had the 4th pick that was in the 3rd talent tier and they traded back to 8th, which they felt was in the same talent tier.
This draft has Wemby in tier 1 and Scoot/Miller in tier 2. 14 is at tier 4 or 5 at best. You need way more than Dyson and a 1st to jump 1-2 tiers and get up to 3.

It only takes one team to not be in love with a player for them to trade out. No one in our top 4 wanted Garland, so that #4 was available. You look back now, and the Knicks probably feel stupid for not moving off of the #3 and taking RJ.

I think you’re looking at this all wrong. Nba draft teades are based on talent tiers not necessarily spots. There is a general consensus from most teams who are the top players. In that draft Garland and RJ were way below talent wise than Zion and Ja.

Garland was a question mark because he played like 3 games in college before injury.
Kind of like Sharpe going 8th last year… he had high upside but was a very risky pick.

Sharpe plays for the Pelicans?

7th, 8th, whatever. One pick before us to the Blazers.
He was considered top 3 material if he had played but dropped because he had t played a minute at Kentucky.

Charlotte could make a leverage play, take Scoot, and look to maximize its returns while still getting Brandon Miller. A scenario at 14th pick that could work for all would be...
We have a trade! New Orleans has made a trade with the Charlotte Hornets and the Portland Trailblazers:
-New Orleans trades Zion Williamson to the Portland Trailblazers and the 14th overall pick to the Charlotte Hornets;
-Portland trades Anfernee Simons and the draft rights to Brandon Miller to the Charlotte Hornets and the 23rd overall pick to the New Orleans Pelicans;
-Charlotte trades Gordon Hayward, the draft rights to Scoot Henderson and the 34th overall pick to the New Orleans Pelicans and the 39th overall pick to the Portland Trailblazers.
So...
Charlotte gets Brandon Miller, Anfernee Simons, Nasir Little and the 14th overall pick;
Portland gets Zion Williamson and Charlotte's 39th overall pick;
New Orleans gets Scoot Henderson, Portland's 23rd overall pick and Charlotte's 34th overall pick.

In all honesty with about 24 hours left, if this was a possibility it would have happened. I really like this trade but with such few hours left will be really difficult to pull it off.
