ESPN

quote:

LOS ANGELES -- LeBron James made his way down the ramp to exit the arena Monday night, having just completed his 20th NBA season with an unceremonious sweep out of the playoffs, not knowing if it would be the last time he would make that walk as an active player.

After scoring 40 points and playing all but four seconds of the Los Angeles Lakers' 113-111 Game 4 loss to the Denver Nuggets -- with his last-second floater to try to force overtime being blocked at the buzzer -- James ended his news conference by telling reporters, "Going forward with the game of basketball, I've got a lot to think about."

Following the news conference, ESPN asked James to elaborate on his statement.

When you say you got to think about stuff, what thread should we be pulling on that?

"If I want to continue to play," James said.

As in next year?

"Yeah."

You would walk away?

"I got to think about it."

He won’t. He knows he’ll get less attention if he retires.

I really don't think that he plays two more seasons. Helps the pick, since we can defer if he plays and stays relatively healthy next season.

But he also knows that the Lakers team won't have the same talent next season. If they give Reaves the bag that he would collect on the free market, they won't have the space to bring back D'Lo and Vanderbilt. Or Schroeder, Lonnie, and Rui.

He’s so damn dramatic. He’s not retiring. He knows that, we know that. So ridiculous.

He didn’t win a championship so this is how he’ll get the attention he craves.

Truer words have never been spoken. Can we take the Lakers pick next season and pick his son? We can stash him in the Ukrainian league until he’s NBA ready.

Like most I don’t believe he’ll retire this year, but I don’t think this was for attention. I think his faith in himself is truly shaken.

He’s told himself the last few years if they could get to the playoffs he could make things happen. That is exactly what happened this year but after getting swept he sees that he’s no longer good enough to will a team to the Finals.

Vanderbilt

I don’t think they are really concerned with bringing Vanderbilt back unless it’s on a super cheap deal, he got DNP coaches decision last night.

ETA: I see he’s still under contract, for a reasonable price never mind

He doesn't match up well against Jokic, but the Lakers would not have even made the play-in without him.

I wish they would save everyone time and he would simply hold every press conference yelling “look at me!”

space to bring back D'Lo

They aren't bringing him back. Reaves and Rui are the only ones that have a chance to come back. The others will be sacrificed to the Kyrie god.
