Barnes getting traded in mid game wasn’t cool but that is what happens in a sport where there are always games going on, like the NBA and MLB. Not the NFL because teams only play one game a week, typically on Sunday.

As far as why Barnes wasn’t pulled from the lineup if he was potentially getting traded, Marc Gasol got pulled from the lineup last season for an impending deal with Charlotte. The deal collapsed because Charlotte then started lowballing Memphis thinking the trade was close, resulting in Gasol going to Toronto instead.

I'm pretty sure a story came out that Barnes knew that he was possibly being traded and wanted to play anyway.

Maybe the league should do away with guaranteed contracts. That way it’s more like real life employment.

I know sometimes you think your $20/hr job is real life, but high dollar positions are generally the type where you sign a contract. And if said company doesn't want you around anymore, they can tell you to leave even though they may have to keep paying you. Happen to my uncle. basically had a 6 month vacation where he got paid his normal salary, but didn't have to work b/c they let him go, but his 3 year contract was guaranteed and he hadn't done anything to breach it, so they had to pay him.
Cousin of mine signed a 2 year contract to be a VP. He gets a $250k bonus each year on top of his salary. If he wants to break the contract and leave the company, he has to give the bonus back, and as long as he does his job, they have to pay him.

And if that is the case, LeBron should have apologized for his rant because it was predicated off the premise of “he was playing for them and got traded without his knowledge.”

But we all know LeBron doesn’t admit fault or apologize.

Most employment contracts aren’t for 5 years and 9 figures, fully guaranteed.

Even the CEO of Microsoft has his stock options watered until he has stayed long enough for them to fully vest.

The trade was consummated during the second half, as Barnes played 8:49 of the third quarter. A source told SportsDay's Brad Townsend that Barnes was informed of the trade possibility before the game, but he elected to play against Charlotte, anyway.

Following the game, Paul Pierce said on ESPN that Barnes was aware he was being shopped by the Mavericks, and there was a possibility he could be moved as soon as Wednesday night — but he asked to play anyway.

ETA: LeBron is a loud mouthed idiot, surprise!

He makes good points, but playing devils advocate, the players can say they get traded at a whims notice, so why is it a problem when the shoe is on the other foot?

Who pays who, though? That’s what it comes down to

Not really as interesting for casual fans when you get the same 2 teams in the Finals for 4 years in a row and everyone expected those teams to win their conferences before the season started.

This is false. Casual fans tune to see teams/players they know.

right
Steph/Lebron 1-4 was crack for casual fans

it’s the fans of individual teams that got sick of it

if Lebron is not in the finals this year I bet ratings tank, even though the season and playoffs will be far more interesting

I bet ratings are up this year for one simple reason... no Raptors.

The ratings are US only, as a different network has the Canadian broadcast rights.

Kerr is a hypocrite. Was it good for the league when Golden State added Durant to a 73-win team? He didn't protest coaching that team. He sounds like a sore loser now.

If that’s what it came down to, the owners wouldn’t have gotten dragged through the coals at the last CBA.

The league wants the teams with the most fans to win. I think that's the Bulls, Lakers, Knicks, Celtics, and Warriors (not in any order).

The league does better when they succeed. It also does better when its stars do well. That's LeBron, KD, Steph, Harden, Kawhi, and Giannis -- the names and personalities that casual fans know.
