Better decision in the long term for sure. You're basically gambling your future with AD/Cousins on the play of Mr Holiday for the next 3-4 years. That's a scary thought because there won't be any flexibility to make any major moves with a Davis/Cousins/Holiday salary. You're pretty much set for the next 3-4 years with the same core and probably no quality cheap draft picks to work with.

Holiday is not a disaster. He is the same inconsistent player. Jrue will play 5 great games and this board will anniont him as an All Star.
The disaster is Dell. It is not JH's fault he was way overpaid.

Because Jrue Holiday has also been a disaster.

He's a guard getting paid 25 million dollars a year that is shooting 21% from 3 and has a PER of 10.9.

people keep saying this. Jrue carried a 18.2 PER across 206 games for the Pels coming into this season. For reference, Conley, Deangelo Russell, Dragic are all carrying PERs in the 18s this season

His downward spiral directly coincides with the Cousins acquisition. Check the splits from late Feb through now. Something went awry with him between now and then

pre All-Star break (42 games):

16/7.5/4 on 47/39 splits

if you parse that down to the Davis at the 5 Pels (25 games from 12/24-2/17) it was

17/8/4 on 49/43

post All-Star break:

last season (25 g) 14/7/4 on 42/30

currently (11 g) 13/6/5 on 43/21

Yup. He fell off a cliff after Cousins.

To be fair, once they moved him offball and had Frazier next to him, he improved.

Which is why I'm hoping we see improvement with Rondo.

danger danger danger

Cousins missed about 2 of the 9 games they played in that stretch.

lots of talk about sample size in terms of Holiday's career v these early games. it cuts both ways for that hot stretch in March. that stretch was a total of 330 MP, 120 FGA, and 50 3PA

if that play was part of why they gave him the money or feel that he could be a + off ball player, that's a little ludicrous.

Maybe he just didn't practice much while his wife had cancer. Which makes sense, and he lost some of his skill. Could also be he has no idea how to play with 2 bigs. Who knows.

Id rather wish for cousins to sign a two year extension.

Jrue 45% is less likely unless you prevent him from shooting further out than 15 ft.

You get this from Jrue, he's worth his contract imo. Those are very good numbers. Those numbers are the literal definition of the 3rd banana we need.

I also don't think these Jrue haters realize that we had to pay him, there was no one else available that we would've or could've gotten

Imagine this team without Jrue, plus 2 or 3 more Moore or Hill type players, i would much rather have an "overpaid" Jrue than not have Jrue at all given the situation we had in the offseason

Anyone know his stats playing with Jameer relative to without?

The Jrue/Jameer 2 man lineup isn't great offensively but it's been solid on defense.

100.6 ORtg 93.3 DRtg 7.4 NetRtg

Jrue's overall ORtg is 101.7, so his time with Nelson actually pulls that down. We're also dealing with pretty small sample sizes here though.

Here's something interesting I found in Jrue's stats. He's playing much better at home. Again this is probably just a sample size issue, but

Home 56.6% TS%
Road 42.3% TS%

Nobody we could have gotten? Tyreke Evans signed a 1Y contract for less than 4M. He is averaging over 17 ppg with a PER around 24..

I think Evans has found his optimal role by embracing the sixth man.

Which was always the issue with Evans here. He wanted to play above his play grade. He wanted to start, finish, run the offense and be the hero. Amazing what growing more humble and some good coaching can do for a player.

He is killing it. I'm glad he has found a good home. I still wish we would have kept him and sent Holiday instead. Evans is just better and it blows my mind that people don't see it..

first off, there were guys available that could have been serviceable. and secondly, we did not have to pay him that much, so get the hell out of here with that Asik way of thinking.
