This is a tough situation. He looks fricking great. Close to Duke playing shape. Zion of the last two years would not have posted a video with his shirt off.

He’s probably fine enough to play 15-20 a night but at what cost to the team? He hasn’t been at practice to integrate himself and gel with CJ, Jonas, Snell, Graham, etc. probably doesn’t even know Willie’s system.

Sure it would probably make him happy just to get out there but this team has a real chance to make the playoffs, past the play in

How will the team survive without playing point Naji and Gary Clark at the 4 in close games?

If this really is Zion's way of saying he wants to be part of the stretch run, and the team tells him "nah we good, don't want to ruin the chemistry we with the two-way contract players right now".....

I wouldn't expect to see him in Pels uniform again

I think the 30 for 30 on this is going to show this rift has been Nelson vs Zion. The stupid bursts came from Nelson, Nelson tried to change the way Zion walked/ran, and Nelson is the overly cautious trainer that will probably keep him shut down all year. You can't tell a 21 year old, who spent all year getting trashed that he isn't ready to play when he can obviously play.

I have hated Zion all year, but I am with him on this. Let him ball out for the last 10 games. You can bring him off the bench and have him feast on second units. LeBron barely plays defense anymore, so just give him the LeBron role.

Nelson has the benefit of the doubt. Don’t call him stupid. I’ll call the young kid stupid for not wanting to listen to an extremely experienced and respected trainer with a proven track history that dwarfs almost everyone else in the industry.

It makes no sense to play him in the last 5 or so games. None.

Are you assuming he wouldn’t be good? If he’s good, then we have a rotation of:
CJ
BI
Zion
Herb
JV
Jax
Jose
Willy
DG/Naji/Trey spot minutes

That lineup should win the play in games. Then, what if CP3 has a setback? Would we beat the Suns when they dont have CP3 in a series? Maybe not, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Obviously this is assuming that Zion’s imaging is perfect and he couldn’t re-injure the foot. I don’t think being slightly less in shape for basketball magically mean’s his risk for injury skyrockets. If we play him for 5 games and he gets hurt, then tough luck, what’s the difference of chances between him getting hurt in 5 games this season and the first 5 games next season. Should we just never play him?

Is the collection of pissing Zion off, giving us a worse chance to win play-in/playoff games, and getting zero playoff experience all worth while just so we can have a 16% chance at a top 4 pick?

Zion may not have liked it but it wasn't stupid.

Zion was cleared for practice earlier in the season, how'd that work out?

Zion was barely jogging and fat as shite last time we saw him at shootarounds. He obviously is not in the same place as he was last time he was cleared for practice.

And as far as the bursts, there is not much to suggest they accomplished anything but ruining Zion's momentum and pissing him off.

Sounds like the Pels were right then.

They were proven right when he couldn't be in shape to get back on the court sooner and then can't stay healthy and in shape again with this new injury.

If he’s truly ‘ready to play’, the Pelicans should trade him RIGHT NOW to anyone who wants him for whatever we can get before he gets hurt again and is worthless. (I’m being facetious)

He finished the season without re-injury, didn't he? Every time Zion's gone backwards with his health, it's been when he and his team have tried to go their own way.

Not at all. I wouldn’t doubt he’s ready to go, but our season is over and it’s just dumb to risk him getting reinjured, even if that risk is extremely low.
The playin game is nice and all, but it’s not the playoffs, and we probably have a better chance at winning without Zion b/c he will drastically change how the team plays once he gets in there. I’d rather he practice with the team in the off-season to get through those growing pains. I just don’t think him playing these last few games accomplishes anything.

This is a strong signal from Zion that he wants to play. LET THE MAN PLAY. If he is gassed sit him but not at predetermined minutes. 100% believe that Zion will take being pulled by WG because he looks gassed than being pulled by SVG because of a minutes restriction.

Zion was in some pictures at a restaurant (I think Dragos) but I am not sure and he looked pretty damn lean in the face/neck area from last night. Not sure where the pictures are now, I think the bartender posted them.

And if his foot isn't ready, he reinjures it, and has to have another surgery because we catered to his wants instead of his needs?
