Sorry, Dell. Trading Jack for rights to some foreign player is a big mistake. Jack is a solid PG, and they could have gotten more.

Just give it a minute. The Hornets are now up to $9 - $10 million in cap space and they got a $5.4 million trade exception out of the deal. Aminu and a pick for Deng and Korver? I don't think that's the next step, but that's just an example of what moves could be made now.

By renouncing those players how much more cap room can we get? I thought it was already included in the current figure of around 9 million

Current cap numbers-

Rashard Lewis - Roughly $13,400,000 after offset for his contract with the Heat

Aminu - $2.9m

Smith - $2.5m

Henry - $2.3m

Vasquez - $1.1m

Davis - Hold of around $4.3m

Rivers - Hold of $1.87

Miller - Probably $700K, not guaranteed

That is $29m right there.

Anderson's deal probably adds another $8m, bringing it to $37m.

Gordon's hold is for the $5.1m qualifying offer as of now, per the CBA, bringing the total to $42.17m.

That means, with a cap of $59m, we have roughly $19m to play with, give or take.

Demps automatically wins GM of the Year if he pulls that off.

Korver is getting flipped to Minnesota.

I thought Gordon's hold was 250% or $9.6 million.

So next year we'll have a ton of cap room as well with Lewis' 13.4 coming off the books? Regardless of what we do with the cap room we have now?

he wasn't there until last year and he's only like 27 or something, he's not that old

Hornets can use this cap room to complete the reported Bellineli S&T deal- effectively making this: Jack for Gomes, a prospect, and a pick

Doesn't make sense to me. Jack is expiring next year and Gomes is terrible, the prospect is never going to play in the NBA, and the pick will probably be almost worthless.

You're right, I misread that.

It's only the QO amount *if* they are not coming off a rookie deal.

Another weird note- We also renounced some players who haven't been with us in over a season, including DJ Mbenga and Marcus Banks.

Per the CBA FAQ I found, these stick around on a team's books as long as a team is over the cap or until the players are renounced.

As hazelnut said multiple times already.....its not that we feel like he's a game-changer, he was just an integral part of this team that didn't give the FO any problems and was going to be a very good mentor for GV and AR.

I like your thought. I gotta trust that Dell has his reasons.

Yeah, I think they're guessing at how this effects an earlier rumor that looks dead to me. The only way that's worthwhile to the Hornets is if the Clippers were giving us a 1st for Beli.

Hyperbole?

Seriously though, an integral part of a team that had the 3rd worst record overall?

ETA: Okafor and Ariza were other "integral parts" of that team of the past. Out with the old, in with the new.

That makes no sense to me either. Gomes and a late 2nd round pick are essentially worthless.

The only value Gomes has is that he is mid-range expiring at the deadline.

And we wouldn't have renounced our rights to Belli if we were going to do a S&T. If that's true.
