I'm not so sure...

It really wouldn't surprise me that they wait until tomorrow to trade him to a team that has cap space can stretch him for less time and money. Looking at you Brooklyn or Dallas! Just a hunch. I really have nothing to base it on.

today, not tomorrow
it should be done on August 31st

also in trades there might be some formalities
personally I dont expect physical there :)

I would prefer stretching him than use a pick with taking back bad salary

I think the offseason is over. Demps can't trade this dude. He can only stretch him and I don't think he wants to do that.

Dell probably wants. Mickey and Tom probably not...

If we are stretching him to make room for a significant SF then ok. If we have nothing lined up we can't do it.

I'm not so sure. Like some have said he is a liability now, but if you hold onto him he potentially turns into an asset as an expiring.

It's possible Dell is trying not to have Asik cause a cap hit for later years when stretching him this year doesn't get them a noticeably further run in the playoffs.

He probably wants Cap space to work with going forward with Boogie, AD, and Jrue taking so much space. Just a thought.

I don't buy this being a Benson thing. He couldn't even remember AD's name the other day, no way he is involved in to stretch or not stretch decisions. Also Loomis is no stranger to dead money. It's been stated that the Pels are run like a business with a yearly budget and it sounds like they've been profitably run in the Demps era.

The only reason I can see for Loomis blocking a stretch is future tax implications which could be significant if AD/DC works out. I'm not sure what Cleveland's tax situation is post Kyrie trade, but a month ago Derrick Rose on $2.5 million in salary, an amount less than an Asik stretch would be, was going to cost Cleveland $14-$15 million total after taxes. Stretching Asik could potentially turn a $45 million mistake into a $60-$75 million mistake

the hill injury has forced their hand...which just illustrates how shaky this house of cards really is. one injury to an otherwise replacement level player and now you are down to your last few bullets just to tread water

I feel like if they were gonna stretch him it would've happened much earlier, when it could've helped them bring in a more significant free agent. Not now, out of desperation, to bring in a below replacement level player. If the goal is to sign someone like Cunningham, they should stretch Ajinca, not Asik.

I agree. I think it is much more likely they stretch Ajinca or no one rather than Asik.

If nobody is stretched today I wouldn't be surprised if our rumored interest in Ryno was real and Demps is waiting for the Melo trade talks to be revived. In that case if push comes to shove with Cunningham I think they cut Crawford to pay him.

I downvoted. Streching Asik to sign DC is lunacy. I assume you are a Crewz altar.

stretching Ajinca would be stupid, since we are actually going to rely on him playing. If you get rid of him, you are then relying on Diallo as the only backup capable of playing the 4 or 5, until we sign Dante, and neither of the guys can defend 4's in this league much less 5's. You stretch him, the you have to go sign a backup C. What's the point of that?

and stretching Asik for the sake of stretching him is as dumb as giving him that contract. You only stretch him if it makes us much much better, and doing it so you can sign Dante and some other minimum contract isn't making us much much better. Would any of you be happy if we gave QPon a 7 year extension at his current $3.8M, b/c that's pretty much what stretching Asik is. It's just stupid to do it this year, at this point. The time to do it was early in FA if we were trying to create enough cap space to sign someone legit. You don't do it now so you can sign a minimum guy.

Or, you could stretch Ajinca and that would give you the money to give Dante more than the min and sign a guy like Diaw too - who I would take over Ajinca for this team.

No i am not and i'm not talking about stretching him just to resign Dante. We brought in fricking Josh Smith, Chase Budinger and Martell Webster in for workouts.....

If that's the best we can do with what we've got then we are in deeper shite than we originally thought. You have to create some type of space to bring in better talent than these three.

That space isn't needed right now. It will be needed in the future. We aren't stretching him. It makes no sense right now. NONE!

If they want to create space right now, then trade QPon away with cash.

I didn't think of the angle of stretching Ajinca to sign Dante and someone like Diaw, which would be alright, but I just hate the idea of true dead salary for the future. It's one thing to have a bad contract, it's another to have to owe someone money that there is literally no way out anytime soon.

We'll check back at the end of the year after watching Josh Smith chunk up hundreds of unnecessary 3's and Boogie walks..... we'll see how much that space isn't needed.
