Either you’ve never had a wet dream or never had a climax.

Blue balls is the analogy you’re looking for.

I knew Ingram would be out today. I wouldn’t expect him or any of our guys on 2HoB2B

This is garbage that we have been conditioned to think this way and be okay with it

We are fighting for our lives right now and this overly conservative approach hasn’t exactly led to good injury luck in the past.

I agree. SVG said something recently on Twitter to this affect about how players are treated/trained today leads to more injuries such as hamstring strains.

Christian Clark @cclark_13 1h

Asked Brandon Ingram if he felt pain last night in his toe. Here's what he said:

BI says he needs the rest to recover so he can keep playing. Would you rather him play a back to back and then have to sit out another 2 weeks? You're saying "he should play, what's the harm?" The harm is the risk of recurrence. I don't know what that risk is as a percentage, but you're dismissing it like it's zero and BI is saying it is greater than zero.

He can either play basketball or he can’t.

If he “can’t” play back to backs then he shouldn’t play at all.

The reality is he can. He can play. This training staff has just taken the player rest fallacy to the absolute extreme.

Yeah, because if he hadn't played last night everyone would have been fine with it and just said "oh well, he's still injured, get better soon BI."

I don't know what the answer is. I do think SVG is right in that the new method is not producing the results we were promised. But where's the threshold? What is the recurrence risk from playing back to backs? Is it 20% or 60%? If it's just 20% maybe you roll the dice.

In the end all we really care about is wins. Availability is an ability, and BI missing games like he has should make you rethink his long term fit just like you would if he had been healthy the whole time but shooting 30% from 3 on the year.

It’s just the reality of treatment in the NBA today. The Warriors rest their players all the time. They have 4 titles.

I’m not saying I agree with it, but it is what it is.

BOTH - physically fragile, mentally weak, injury prone "all stars" with zero durability along with horrid training, medical, etc ...

Is this precautionary or does he actually have toe soreness?

That's what I was thinking too. Maybe they just said "soreness" as an excuse for load management.

The answer is there is minimal literature to support this line of thought. It is why SVG is right in that we aren't getting the results we are promised with this extra rest. BI can re-injure his toe on Tuesday just like he can re injure it today. BI has missed at least 10 games over the last two years for being cautious. Zion has been held out of at least 20 games as a "precaution" in his career. Has this practice helped BI and Zion remain healthy? Has it helped the team?

A February home game against a team you are most likely going to be within a few games of in the standings can have huge implications on the season. If the training staff can't get the best available player ready to play 24 hours after he scored 35 points in leading the team to victory because of a two and a half month old non surgical injury, there is a problem. As NBA fans, we are so conditioned that it is an 82 game season and it is so long. The fact is that BI has missed 30+ games and Zion isn't far behind. That means that the Pels season effectively isn't 82 games. It is Nelson and the training staff's job to have these guys ready to play. They can choose the over cautious route like they have, but we, as fans, can sure as hell criticize it because they simply aren't doing a great job of getting guys ready to play.

Teams with elite players have realized all that matters is getting to the playoffs healthy to give them a chance. They don't need the home field advantage: look at lebron and the super teams in the east.

However this all started with San Antonio and rightfully so, they were 3 old arse dudes into their 30s who logged a frick ton of minutes and got "DNP - old". Which made sense.

Obviously, I didn’t see the quote

Thanks for linking it

You have to admit it’s frustrating nonetheless

I really thought him sitting out as long as he did meant he was completely past the injury. I guess we now know that is not the case.
