In defense of Griffin re Zion - not sure what else can be done

First off, he has made a million mistakes as GM. I'm not defending Favors, Bledsoe, Devonte Graham, Steven Adams, Ball trade, etc.
But the dude has been put in a no-win situation with Zion.
He tried to be firm with Zion. Didn't work.
I get why year after year they positioned Ingram as the face because the rest of the team would throw up knowing that lazy fat frick was their "leader."
Ingram is not a No. 1 but at least he has the respect of his teammates.
Griff has done everything he can do to try to make it work for Zion. Hired his babysitter, TSpoon. Fired his enabler, TSpoon. Fired the trainers he didn't like. Took it in the arse so Zion's idiot stepdad could portray the narrative how he wanted.
Played tough, played soft. Put in claueses. Brought in CJ to help make the idiot get it.
But at the end of the day, none of that shite has worked.
He even signed the fat piece of shite to a contract that penalizes him for being unprofessional.
What else can the man do? I'm not saying he should keep his job. I just don't know what else he could do.
We just were unlucky and won the lottery for a generational talent with no willpower or drive and a typical leech family.

I can’t stand Griff, and I would agree.

Not at all a Griffin guy and never was, but he did nothing wrong in terms of the Zion situation. Literally every GM in the history of the sport would have done the same thing and picked Zion at #1. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. And like you've said he's done everything he possibly could to make Zion happy and it hasn't worked. Don't blame Griffin for that.

Enforce the fat clause and make the fricking dude get in shape or take his money.

You babysit / kid gloves with superstars that actually win. Zion has done nothing at the NBA level to get that type of treatment.
You stay in shape, you develop your game, win playoff series, hopefully rings.
Basically if Zion showed he was serious about his craft and winning for the Pelicans, I could understand Griff being soft with him.

Players run the league man, Zion has been a disaster since the beginning and that is ALL on Zion

Griff doesn't slide on any of the outcomes, he's President of Basketball Operations. It is his job to move the franchise forward and show success. He has had moderate success but the franchise is all geared up and stuck.

Maybe this was Griffin’s biggest mistake that some of you guys are missing. He gave a kid superstar treatment when in all honesty- he hasn’t done anything to deserve it. Thats on Griffin.
You can’t build your franchise around a guy who’s always injured, not mature, out of shape, and has achieved absolutely nothing in 6 years- and not be somewhat at fault.

I blame Griff for not trading him after year 1.
6 weeks meniscus injury turned into 14 weeks. Dude gained 40 pounds and didn’t do his rehab.
Fast forward to Covid Bubble. Dude comes in fat and out of shape. Pulls his hamstring. Makes Griff tell the world it was due to Covid/family emergency. Comes back into the bubble 10 days later, 15 pounds heavier.
He should have been traded year 2. He was a piece of shite his entire rookie year. And he hasn’t changed. He has been a piece of shite for 6 straight years now.

The best thing Griff did was our leveraging Zion and getting him to sign that extension with the weight and games clauses.
