I’m getting that Ball vibe with the way Griff is handling the BI situation

Way overvalued him, kept him to long, ended up basically giving him away for nothing in a sign and trade because he didn’t want to resign him.

Bad thing is, he had leverage over Ball since he was restricted. Doesn’t have that with BI.

Even worse is he passed on trading him for Lauri straight up not once but twice…..

I just feel like if we sign him for 40+ mil it’ll be like Chicago with Lavine where they’re willing to give teams additional assets to dump Lavine.

What did Utah want for Lauri?

Just because he was on the market and so was BI doesn’t mean Ainge was t asking for our picks for the next decade as well.

We may have to do like what we did with Lonzo and what Philly did with James Harden. Basically trade him for only 1 or 2 picks, then either at the deadline or next off season make another trade. It sucks but that's definitely a possibility.

Good news is we ended up trading a lot of what we got for Lonzo and turned that into CJ

I'm pretty sure we could trade him for Allen or Ayton + picks pretty easily. We aren't "overvaluing" him by not doing so. Are we gambling on his value? Yes we are. But half of the reason fewer teams are interested is because of the max talks. If you lock in BI for 40-45mil teams will bite and value should even out.

I want to see one more year with this with BI, no extension.

He's not going to sign a lesser than max extension and we aren't offering him a max. Teams aren't giving up much for him b/c of that as well, so we might as well give it another run.

If at the end of the year he is worthy of a max, then that's a good thing for us. Give it to him and move CJ.
If at the end of the year, or even before the trade deadline it's obvious he's not a good fit here anymore and we don't want him, then either move him at the deadline if you can, or simply let him go at the end of the season. You got 6 years from him. We aren't the Clippers where we have zero assets to go get a replacement. We can easily go after a scorer to replace BI if we let him go, and we can do that via S&T with the assets we currently have. This is a better scenario than signing him to an extension right now, it not working out, and you can't get rid of him like Lavine. Yeah it woudl suck to lose him for nothing, but it's better than the alternative of having to pay to get rid of him.

if he has depressed value currently, why not go into the season with him and rehab his value. Somebody is going to get hurt or some team will have a hot start and want to push themselves into contender status and BI will be sitting there waiting.

He passed on him at the trade deadline that year straight up for Ball. And then again that offseason. Lauri sat in rfa for a long time with no offers. I think they wanted us to throw in a first for him and Griff balked so he was traded to the Cavs. So Twice. Not talking about now.

Ummm no we didn’t. Like nothing. We gave up one of the firsts from the Jrue trade and Hart. Nothing to do with the Ball trade.

Griff took Satoransky and Garrett Temple instead of taking Lauri.

No doubt he is regretting that now.

I agree with this. Contract year BI should be a different animal with 1 remaining year on his deal, playing for his future contract. I understand it would be a huge risk to lose him for nothing, but if his value is as low as PT insinuates then frick it, I’d rather hold onto him for one final ride. I’m optimistic and we all know BI is an extremely hard worker so I choose to believe he’ll be very confident in that 3 pt shot this season, which is really his only weakness as a player for us. He’s improved tremendously defensively and he’ll only get better

Editing to add that trading Lonzo was a blatantly terrible decision, we got nothing for him, he didn’t get a big deal and we immediately had G issues for years to come. The Bulls were playing amazing before Lonzo went down and he was playing the best basketball of his career. The injury is irrelevant because no one could have foreseen that.

Seeing as how Lonzo is an empty contract we actually won the Ball trade bud.

By a landslide. Bulls have paid Ball 40 million the last two seasons while not playing.

BI no longer fits the style of play this team built on. Move him, NOT CJ

I think they should stick with him because when someone is given a second even a third chance, they finally come around. Boston stuck it out with Tatum and Brown when everyone was calling for them to break them up and move on. In no way am I saying Ingram is Tatum or Brown, but he is a talented forward that has played well for the Pelicans. Him and Williamson have been or developed into a good combination. Yes, Ingram had a bad playoff series against OKC, but that's what makes you a better player because you wanna prove everyone wrong and I think he does. I think him and Williamson still have a lot more to prove, and in keeping them together they can do just that. I think they would go well with playing with Murray too, it gives you a nucleus of a young big 3.

they need to find a center though, they screwed up imo in not resigning big man Valanciunus.

If that were the case, he'd be long gone already.

Cleveland is in no rush to see how their roster shakes out, and we have no leverage and are at the mercy of other teams with BI.
