Contrast that relationship with van gundy. That was almost a franchise killer

CJ McCollum saved the franchise and legitimized the existence of everyone in the organization

CJ doesn’t choose to come here if we have Van Grumpy, Willie was a huge part in CJ choosing us

While I agree about him legitimatizing the organization in a way (having the head of the players union want to come play for you in a big deal), I would say Willie and BI have done more to "save" the franchise.

Willie and BI changed the culture and narrative, CJ added more coals to the train to make it run faster.

What stood out to me is how genuinely happy Zion was. Getting paid had a lot to do with it, but still, you could tell he was in a Best Birthday Ever mood.

When Coach talked about varying the offense and who's bringing the ball up and mentioned some times Herb would bring it up to create different looks...

This still doesn't excuse the fact that the Pelicans have the worst PBP radio team in the NBA

10x better than any recent hire WWL has made with their trash in-house talent

This could shape up to be a Sean Peyton type hire. Winning seasons for 10+ years

Not to diminish either but I reckon we’d be in the same middling mess without CJM. I don’t blame them they just needed help

Neither could corral the Zion situation, which was spiraling out of control at the time, both on and off the court. The biggest issue plaguing the organization

Both needed CJM to reach their final form. BI did not have to pretend to be the kind of leader he wasn’t and could just do his thing, and Willie finally had a sound presence to help get everyone to buy in. Both were different guys for the better post CJM trade

Just how I see it. Hard to deny everything felt very different after the trade
