BI not the problem, coaching is.
Willie got extended. BI is great player but there are serious fit issues with Zion.

We just had like the 3rd winningest season in franchise history, and the team has a really good chance of not even being in the playoffs.
There really isn't a lot of room for eternal optimists here.

Right
It's weird that Zion just played 70 or however many games and we are STILL a play in teams, and some posters seem dumbfounded that there isn't blind optimism here.
This season is not going to be one we look back on with high 5s and a successful season. We're either missing the playoffs or being an easy out for OKC or DEN.
I'm just not sure why we should NOT be pessimistic about healthy Zion, play in, missed playoffs/1st round exit.

Just checked to see what tickets are available on Seat Geek and oh my. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that many seats available for a meaningful game.

We are signing a completely different tune if they decide to not rest Zion against the Spurs. We win that game and we aren't even talking about any of this. Everyone is thrilled with the 6 seed.
1 game in 82 makes this a deeply unsuccessful season where everyone is on the verge of panic.

Without Zion this season I think we are in Houston/Utah territory.
That being said, BI has not elevated this team like Zion has, and we have a GAPING hole at the 5 spot that needs to be filled with an elite player, so I have to agree BI has to go for the betterment of the team.
My proposal to go with BI/Mobley swap would be simple and also taking a shot on an expiring deal that could be a homerun.
Cavs: Cam Johnson, BI, multiple picks from Nets
Nets: Mitchell, Strus, Nance
Pels: Mobley, Simmons
Simmons going into a contract year could be a home run hit for us as he may finally decide to actually play, if not then we have a HUGE expiring salary with no connections to flip at the deadline with all of our picks added.
We also wouldn’t have to add a pick to BI/Mobley swap since we would be the one taking the Simmons contract. Nets have also already said they are going all in for a star that wants to be in New York

Simmons...as in...Ben Simmons?
Absolutely the frick not

When he has played he’s looked like his old self, the issue is him actually playing.
And like I stated, it keeps you from giving up a pick or two and gives a 40 million dollar expiring salary for the inevitable huge star player that comes available at the deadline
Only player like that I could see being available before the season starts would be Trae, which in that case I call Atlanta and offer Simmons and all the picks for Trae, then we would have traded BI and Nance for Mobley and Trae, and be FAR better off, but that is my reasoning for doing the Simmons deal as I want the salary more than anything.

Holy shite he really is a 40m expiring next year

Expiring contracts have drastically reduced in value over the past two CBAs.
Simmons has played the following amount of games the last 3 years:
0
42
15
He's broken as a player, and his body is broken as well

What?
Expiring salary has actually INCREASED in value with this last CBA.
Teams will always be looking to shed long term salary now no matter what, which makes the big expirings all that much more valuable.
And again, you’re looking at him as a player, I’m looking at him as a huge salary that will allow you to go get Trae or someone of that ilk

So let me get this straight- you want to get Simmons to trade Simmons? If it was that easy to trade Simmons- you don’t think Nets would have done it already? Simmons contract even as salary filler is as seen as a humungous negative.

Simmons has never been an expiring salary like he will be this offseason…

Not as expiring salary, 24-25 is the final year of his deal (24-25 is the player option year)

That is not what I have heard from anyone. Virtually every comment I have ever seen was that the last two CBAs have killed the expiring contract phenomenon.
Can you show me someone mentioning that the latest CBA has increased value for expirings, and some big time trades centered around them recently? I'd like it for my own edification

A perfect example is how we couldn’t trade JV this deadline. Expiring contracts are not as valuable as they used to be.

Harden trade to Clippers was literally all expiring salary
CJ trade to us only reason we were able to make it was because we had the expiring salary
