IMO, Griff deserves a ton of credit. His main goal when coming here was to establish a culture, and he seems to have done that.

I mean he almost tore everything apart with the terrible SVG hire, so let's not start sucking his dick just yet

Everyone makes mistakes, one of the best qualities to have is to be able to recognize and rectify those mistakes

I've been considering starting a thread about this, but I never start threads so I didn't.

But yea 95% of this board wanted him gone, myself included, and it seems we all were very very loud wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm elated that I was wrong, but I think we kinda glossed over that these past few months in how wrong we all were about Griff.

Stop

You can't talk up this team all season long when we do well and not give credit to Griff.

Griff's sole job in the beginning was zion. It was not a good situation for a while. Both have improved and fixed it. Kudos to both. Griff did hire stan which was a frick up.

he established the culture. the way the team celebrated after the win was like it was a pickup game in the park. this team is a family.

He deserves all of the credit. He took over a team that was ready to fall apart and brought them together. Then we traded for CJ and this year we get Zion back. The last 2 moves don't happen if Willie doesn't get our house in order.

He deserved it at the time. All of the things that were mistakes at the time...are still mistakes now, they didn't get better.

But instead of things compounding, he quickly corrected them and started making really good decisions. He deserves a lot of credit. Its hard to get the calculus right, and he has.

While true, if we were merely lobbing criticisms that would be one thing.

But the bulk of us wanted him fired, and we were clearly wrong there.

so while we continue up the ladder, gayle is a top 5 nba owner with the culture she's established on her own correct?

Willie deserves a ton of credit. If we still had SVG I firmly believe that we all wouldn't be so jacked up right now.

He experiments with rotations and finds what works. He knows the game like a coach, yet can also relat to everything the players are going through. He's level headed, is a calming presence and can speak loudly without screaming. He also can see what each player does well and what they don't to well and is able to maximize the potential of each with his rotations while minimizing their deficiencies.

Willie Green is everything I've wanted in a head coach and I could not be more satisfied. He actually uses his fricking brain, it's remarkable.

We did have that with Monty too; but Alvin and SVG just seemed so clueless out there

I hear you CelticDog, just clarifying how the Pels got to where they are at. I'm not with the national media narratives that come about simply because they don't take the time to find out how the sausage was made.

The national media had the Pels franchise moving on the first thing smoking out of town, and Zion having no help and needing to move to a major market. Pels meanwhile laid the foundation with a commitment to 'Team' basketball, hard work, and letting talented, but young, players develop. Now that the Pels have opened some eyes they now want a narrative on the turnaround, when in reality its been a steady build.

A lot, the culture change he IMHO had the absolute biggest impact on bringing about is the key to this unbelievable turnaround.

We went from a place no player wanted to be or come to and where players openly half-assed and constantly feigned injuries to a place where players now want to be. Nothing short of astonishing and that's mostly due to him in my view.

Same here. I take back every wrong thing I’ve said about that bastard. He has knocked it out of the park minus the SVG thing. The staff, the players, the culture.

Typical Chad topic. Praise the team while diminishing the job that Willie has done.

Willie has built this culture and he deserves ton of credit. After having Stan and Alvin, Willie is a god send.

Griff deserves a lot of credit, but it's also a bit more nuanced than is being sold.

There is very much a world that if Griff got his way, this team would have either Lowry or Hardaway Jr's albatross contracts sucking up a large amount of cap space. Instead of Willie Green we have Jacque Vaughn, who along with Nash have really fumbled the culture and X's and O's in BRK the last couple seasons.

In fairness, he'd probably done what is necessary to get off both those guys, but I dont think we would be looking at quite the same situation starting this season had some of Griff's preferred options actually come through.

Griff hiring Trajan, spoon, and Swing enabled the culture change. Empowering team oriented champions with diversity boxes checked and rechecked was a master stroke

Gayle gets credit for opening up the flood gates and allowing the Pels to blossom beyond the shadow of the Saints. This includes trusting basketball minds and the willingness to expand/ spend money in order to make it happen.

Griffin gets credit for learning from his mistakes and continuing to make very good decisions.

Willie gets credit because CJ/ Nance may not be here without him along with several coaches. This doesn’t include his actual role in getting players to buy in and have the right focus/ mentality/ chemistry.

CJ gets credit for being the guy we have needed for a long time. He knows when to lead and when to let others lead so that everyone can succeed. That’s a special quality in a high profile player.

It’s a team effort that finally has the foundation to be successful.
