How does Hawkins early development affect Dyson minutes when everyone is healthy?

The way Hawkins is a threat offensively, rebounds and plays more than adequate defense- I feel like at times when everyone is healthy he’ll eat up Dyson minutes. I think Dyson defense is great but I also believe this team desperately needs what Hawkins brings not just in shooting but also IQ, rebounding, hustle and defense. It’ll be interesting to watch down the stretch.

Dyson's defense probably keeps in the rotation. He's the only perimeter guy we have after Herb.

Trey's going to get 30mpg. The rest is probably a fight between Naji and Hawkins.

Im not going to let myself overreact if Hawkins doesn't immediately take all of Naji's minutes, because he's a long term piece and that spot will be his sooner or later.

Personally Hawkins is much better than Naji but I understand Willie relying upon Naji as well although I completely disagree with it.

I understand Dyson defense but man his limitations on offense really hamper lineups. I know defense is important but especially off the bench I prefer a guy who can get hot, plays smart and just fits perfect offensively without giving up that much on defense. Basically I feel Hawkins scoring or just his shooting gravity can swing games off the bench more than Dyson defense.

Dysons really looking like a head scratcher of a pick more and more. What this team definitely doesn’t need is more defense. I really liked the pick at the time and I think Dyson will be a fine player, but just not here.

I agree in regards to his overall development. I think Dyson needs a lot of minutes to develop his offense. I’m just not sure, again if the team gets healthy, Dyson will get those minutes. These games should have been an opportunity for Dyson to shine offensively- instead Hawkins has took that spot. Dyson still struggles mightily on offense from 3 and free throws.

The more and more I look at Dyson, the more and more I see a trade piece. This teams needs shooting and more of it. I love Dyson’s D but he suffers from Lonzo syndrome and hates attacking the basket and finishing at the rim. If it were only that, he would be fine. This team would still be fine defensively without Dyson. Even when Trey and Jose and BI come back, I still don’t trust we have enough shooting.

But really Dyson’s abysmal FT shooting and 3-point shooting will make it hard for him to earn minutes over Hawkins in more meaningful games towards the end of the season.

ETA: towards the end of the season and playoffs, with everyone healthy (LOl, right?) I think Hawkins will play way more minutes than Dyson and be a key contributor off the bench alongside Jose

I definitely think he’ll be fine. Dude will become a hell a player. I just don’t think he fits what this team needs right now. And eventually you have to sign him to his next contract. Do we really want to pay him what he’s worth? His skill set is redundant on this team.

It’s 4 games into his 2nd season. Let’s come up with ideas close to the trade deadline. Any talk now is worthless

Watching Dyson finger roll a fastbreak layup is probably the angriest I've ever been over a made Pels bucket.

Dude is so timid around the rim. If he won't dunk when no one is in the lane, then he won't finish strong when he's being guarded.

He did try and yam on Chet. He is trying and will continually get better. He is someone I rather hold on to for at least 3 years

We may need Dyson just to come off the bench for Herb when he inevitably picks up his 3rd foul in the first quarter.

Honestly, you picked the wrong night to make this argument. Dyson had one good back-door cut for a lay-up, and almost posterized Holmgren early.

His biggest weakness is his shooting stroke. More makes = harder run-outs = more openings to attack the paint.

Like AD always says, growth isn’t linear. Dyson is 20 years old and it’s his second season. His defense at this point is great, he’s out there clamping down an All Pro player like SGA in clutch time. He has also clearly become more aggressive on the offensive end, so the growth is happening

Hawkins and Dyson offer different things. At this point, I see Dyson as shooting guard and Dyson at point guard.

I'm not worried about minutes. Play the best player in the appropriate situations.

It is going to be really interesting how the line up looks if we're healthy.

McCollum
Jones
Ingram
Williamson
Valanciunas
Murphy
These 6 are locked IMHO

Then you have:
Daniels - defensive point guard
Hawkins - shooting guard who can shoot
Nance - small ball 5
Alvarado - 'energy' guy off the bench at guard
marshall - 'energy' guy off the bench at the wing
ryan - depth shooter

You very well have room to play all 12 if your top 6 create some seperation on teams early.

I'm not going to overreact to Hawkins especially since he didn't shoot well. But if there's anything we can take away from his first few games is that I'll never pay attention to summer league again.

It's truly worthless.

We need to have a sign up in the draft room that says "Don't pick 19 year olds unless they are generational talents."

- Hayes
- NAW
- Kira
- Dyson

Dyson looks fine. As long as his defense stays solid, he can knock down an occasional three and he handles the ball, you don’t need him to score. We have enough scorers. We don’t have enough defenders. He did great on SGA last night.
