way more important to get rid of Posey at this point than Okafor.
why?

someone will trade for him at some point,

i hope you're saying we "screwed ourselves later" because we traded Collison and not because of Ariza's contract

Unless CP could have convinced Melo to come here, which is highly unlikely, then we just traded the wrong PG IMO. Would have rather used Paul to package with Okafor for expirings/talent from Portland or something.

short term
We appear to be in Win Now mode. At least Ariza's a good fit on a reasonable contract. Cleveland screwed themselves in part by reaching for bad fits with huge contracts.

is this the best long-term deal?
What could we realistically have gotten with DC + Peja? No one's going to give up a big better than Okafor for that. I think I'd much rather a $7 million Ariza than a $12 million Iggy.

Okafor's still a Top 10 center.
name 10 centers in the league that are clearly better than Okafor.

why?
because as overpaid as Okafor is, he still gets you 10/10 a night. is it the best 10/10 around, not even close but you can't trade Okafor and then tell CP that we're gonna roll with Aaron Gray. Posey is total dead weight. completely useless.

If Paul leaves, Augustin will be Hornets next point guard.
I like the move, you have to try and do something to keep the franchise, if you lose Paul you'll end up in lottery and that's when you get Paul's replacement
You had to get Posey off the books
Okafor for Augustin needs to happen next

and yet we apparently are letting peja's deal just expire and made moves to get under the tax

Given our options, I wouldn't say it was really stupid.

Ariza's 10ppg + no Posey + better perimeter defense + better rebounding + Peja off the bench + more athleticism + energy = WIN

DC was really, really good last year

no we didn't
and we assumed similar salary (for a starting option)
our FO went cheap on acquiring a 3, and substituted posey's salary for this
but posey didn't HAVE to be moved
