I've seen quite a few people questioning Ariza's game, but keep in mind that Monty played SF and is known for developing raw SFs, and we had quite a bit of inside info on Ariza.

This was about as educated a decision as can be made in a trade and I would be surprised if Ariza didn't have great fit and instant impact with the Hornets.

Demps and vice president of player personnel Gerald Madkins were scouts with New York when the Knicks drafted Ariza in 2004. Madkins also was the Rockets’ director of scouting the past two seasons.

I honestly believe Ariza's performance in Houston is not indicative of how he'll play in N.O. I suspect we'll see substantial improvement in shooting and ball handling.

No effect on the Hornets end of things, but it was almost a 5 team trade.

The Charlotte Bobcats tried to get in the four-team deal that dropped yesterday looking to extract point guard Jose Calderon from Toronto in a deal that would have sent the non-guaranteed contract of Erick Dampier to the Pacers who would have then sent the ending contract of TJ Ford to Toronto for Calderon.

"According to Basketball Prospectus, Ariza limited opposing players to 87.8% of their average game-to-game production last year over 1067 defensive possessions. As a point of comparison, James Posey allowed opponents 22.3% more production than average, over 666 defensive possessions. Ariza will certainly be guarding the other team's best player every night."

Not gonna read the whole thread, but I live in Lakers country and their homers always really liked Ariza and were cooking up hypothetical trades to get him back multiple times last season. The radio hosts out here must have brought up him every time the Lakers struggled...

Yeah, think of a guy like Kobe, averaging 27ppg. Ariza would theoretically hold him to 24 and Posey would let up 32 points. I'd imagine Peja would be even worse than Posey.
