re: Hornets to get Ariza in 4-way trade

If Ariza's scoring drops, I still think he'll be more efficient a scorer than last season. I'm pretty happy with him as we haven't had a SF that wasn't a pussy in a long time, but yeah, that ESPN article makes me wonder if we could have gotten him for and expiring + a pick and used Collison to unload Posey for someone else.

i'd ask you to look at his FT%

isn't that what Peja's deal is for?

What does our lineup look like with the JuJu trade added to this?

even if ariza drops back down to the 10 ppg range?
As long as he's a lock down defender and is efficient with the opportunities he's given I don't care how many points he averages. We don't need him to be a scorer, just finish in transition and hit open jumpers. Most of the offense creation will come from Paul, West and Thornton.

The Hornets didn't stop there. NBA front office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that in a separate deal, the team agreed to send swingman Julian Wright to Toronto for Raptors guard Marco Belinelli. That deal, like the four-team trade, was also expected to be completed Wednesday.

at $7M/year?
for DC?
you can get defenders for much cheaper than that almost every year
hell you can sometimes find them in the 2nd round

Unless CP could have convinced Melo to come here, which is highly unlikely, then we just traded the wrong PG IMO. Would have rather used Paul to package with Okafor for expirings/talent from Portland or something.
+1 We will be royally fricked if we can't get a big FA(Melo) in the next yr. CP will bolt and we'll be left flapping in the wind.

all that's true but since we've obviously hitched our wagon to CP3, i'd imagine Ariza is much more attractive to him than a 2nd round defensive guy.

Prob. so, this could all end up being a master plan package deal to get Melo later on.
Let it go

The ESPN article about the ARIZA trade also says that the Hornets are sending JUJU to Toronto for Marco Bellinelli.

Is this guy garbage? Don't really know of him. Suppose we have to pick up a backup PG at some point

This reminds me of people saying Linebackers were easy to pick up when the Saints couldn't find a good one during the Haslett years. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that the Hornets hadn't been very good at it considering that Pondexter was probably the best defender on the team before this deal. And I agree with you in general Slow, this probably wasn't close to an optimal deal, but it does improve the team at a position of need. It's also a player in his prime unlike the moves to get Peja, Posey and MoPete, so it could have been worse.
Anyone know much about Belinelli? Sounds like a Rudy Fernandez type of player:

hard to know what belineli will do in a real offensive system, but he can hit 3s
basically our offense looks like cp3 drives and either west shoots a 20 footer, or we shoot a 3

He doesn't sound like garbage, Toronto just has some players they like better in front of him with Derozan and Sonny Weems.

Belineli should start cause he looks like the guy who could really benefit from having CP3 set the table for him, and Thornton is our 2nd squad scorer.
Could have made worse moves, but at least these moves weren't desgined ONLY with money in mind

which is basically the same as it's always been, except now we should have guys (Peja, Belinelli, Thornton, Ariza) who can actually hit those 3's

Well he HAS to be better than JUJU and he is now filling a position of need...
