God. Just what we needed a Hornets board for hornetards to be brought into greater focus.

This is a great trade for the Hornets. Darren Collison is a good pg but he will never ever be the top 5 pg in the league people are making him out to be. He is a good pg whou put up nice numbers on an injury ravaged team with few options. With him in a reserve role this year, his value would surely have dropped. The Hornets were right to unload him high and get rid of Posey s contract which I'm on record as saying at the time was one of the stupidest signings of the past 5 years. the Cp3 dc backcourt everyone was pining for was a defensive nightmare, and a redundancy of both players skills on offense.

Ariza is a young, super long, super athletic, super active 3, with outstanding perimeter defense skills, good 3 pt shooting skills, and an above average passer. He will be the best 3 the team has had since being in NOLA. He is a team player, moves well without the ball, and defends with tenacity. He will make an IMMEDIATE impact on this team, which couldn't defend to save their lives last season. He adds a weakside shot blocking presence that David west is not. By mid season he will be a fan favorite.

I can't begin to say how important it was to get rid of Posey.

Bellinelli is one of the best shooters in the NBA. Think Kapono like stroke and then add great athleticism and a pretty decent handle.

I have not been a fan of the Hornets moves in the past few years, but the moves of these past few months have been good if not great. This is now a playoff team for certain. The pieces and players are finally starting to make basketball sense. The trade machine analysis means nothing.

ETA: I have no NBA allegiance to a team. I pull for the hornets to support Nola. So hopefully people see this as unbiased.

We're definitely a better team.

The bench is fairly thin though. There's still work to do, but I am starting to develop some faith in Demps and Monty...

then you must answer the burning question of the night - if all of this is true about Ariza why would the Rockets get rid of him after JUST signing him in FA last year?

Salary Dump, and they get the player they have been eyeing for a while in C Lee.

It wasn't because he sucks. They have Battier, Budinger, and Taylor at the 3. Lee is alot cheaper and they needed another 2 behind Martin. Lee and Martin actually work out together in the off season. This is from ESPN's True Hoop:

quote:

The Rockets' front office deeply believes the best value contracts in basketball are max deals granted to transcendent superstars, and rookie scale contracts belonging to productive young players. In Lee, the Rockets get a young wing who will earn only $1.35 million in 2010-11. In addition, the Rockets hold a team option on Lee for $2.23 million in 2011-12. That's real value for a 24 year old with the talent to start. A $6.3 million trade exception doesn't hurt either.

Lee and Rockets starting shooting guard Kevin Martin train together in the offseason -- the latter regarded as an older brother to the third-year guard. Although Lee might not be the stopper Ariza is, he is capable of covering either guard position and can certainly tread water against some of the league's less dynamic 3-and-D small forwards. Lee will find strong organizational dynamics in Houston, similar to what he encountered during his rookie season in Orlando, where he succeeded.

I think they will continue to make small upgrades as long as they are extremely cap friendly. Their starting 5 is pretty good. If their rooks develop ( which Monty will have a huge hand in and will be much better than byron)
then they have a shot.

Well I agree that there is no doubt the Hornets have gotten better now as a result of the trades, the 3 was a position of almost desperate need for this team for a couple of seasons now.

We do have a new concern at backup pg now, which hopefully can be addressed creatively. And no, not Mike James type of creativity.

Someone put on twitter earlier that the hornets would look to possibly sign Patty Mills who is a RFA! I loved what this kid did in college! Just hasn't gotten a shot in the NBA.

That article had to have been written by Arizas agent.

Patty Mills is more a score first PG. Belnelli can do that if we want a player like that

I don't think this is as much of a pure salary dump as some writers are leading people to believe. DM has said a few times that they just flat out wanted Lee more. The other thing he has said is that another big part of it for them was the 6.3mm trade exception in this deal which Les gave him the green light to spend immediately.

You're clueless dude. I can't stand the Magic, and NEVER have pulled for them on this board or off the board.

Get outta here with that weak shite.

Thinking a guy is the best player in the NBA means that I'm a fan of him and his team? LOLZ.

I enjoy watching him play. I could give a frick if he wins or loses at the end of the day.

I'm a Hornets fan. Plain and simple.

Magic fan Ghazi says.

Nice try and nice fail.

Ariza is a good pickup for his overall game. In Houston, he had a tendency to overshoot and stifle the offense though.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but don't get mad if Collison explodes next season.
