Surely he isn't all world defense, but he was largely playing with no CJ, no Trey, no Naji, Zion in as the big, and largely only Dyson or Herb as a plus defender.

Uh, yeah they are. Hawk's defense is that bad right now. Your saying otherwise doesn't make it true.
The G-League time now is going to be good for Hawk. He needs to play 35 minutes per game and improve defensively enough that he can contribute to a potential Pels late-season playoff push.

It will do nothing but keep him in game shape.
If there's anythign he can actually work on in a G-League game it would be to work on getting his feet right when pulling up to shoot 3's off picks, and also getting his shoulders squared up, the simple mechanics of shooting with a quick release on the move like he does.

Look at how the refs officiated the last 1.5 seconds of the last game. They literally gifted the offense free throw attempts. They don’t care about defense at all in the league.
All the play in the paint is straight manipulated by officiating. The great neutralizer against corrupt officiating is truly elite shooting. This is what Hawkins possesses.

For a short span he had reached top 5 betting odds to win rookie of the year. He was showing no signs of slowing down. We knew his minutes would drop when Trey came back but there was zero reason to cut his minutes completely, he was playing way too good. Sometimes common sense should come into play instead of a flawed +/- stat.

This is spot on, and exactly what my wife and I were talking about. There was NO way he would get his minutes cut completely, right? He’s playing way too good! Willie will find minutes for him!
Nope, nope, and nope. Sad to see, especially because in my humble opinion they could desperately use him. Almost feels like management and Willie aren’t on the same page.

That said, this team has more juice overall when the offense is firing. It trickles down to effort on the boards and defensive end. Hawkins needs to be worked in even at the expense of defense

It's a pretty good indicator that the guy was playing better than almost every other rookie except a few and should be getting minutes and not in the G League
