If we got that version of aggressive hawk on both ends every night, he would be firmly planted in this rotation.
I swear if Willie doesn’t get fired after tonight….it has to happen.

Fears looking like a rookie tonight so far

Thanks for this, very informative info. So what does everyone think, is he likely to get traded or stick around after this extension news?

Hawkins asked to be taken out when they subbed him out with a minute left. I hope he can return for the 2nd half.
If Willie truly means 40 3’s per game, then playing Hawkins at least 15 minutes a game as a rotational player even when Trey comes back, is an absolute must. Since this thread is about hawk, correct me if I’m wrong on that..
Man I would be in the fire Willie camp for sure and agree with you that we drafted him for his offense. If that is what happened it would be BS and I agree Griffin better be ready to step in if he resorts back to last season Willie instead of 5 out get up lots of 3s new Willie where we need Hawk badly for that.
One interesting observation I saw was that it seemed like Hawk was put in the doghouse by Willie after a 4 minute stint in the first half and at least for that game it looked like he fell behind Green. Not sure if anyone else observed this, I’m guessing it was due to defense in the first half if anything. 2nd half his D looked better.
re: Would you trade Hawk and a 1st for Walker Kessler?

I’m just going to put a different perspective out there. Maybe management sees potential in some of our young centers, as potentially being better than Kessler could be.
That, combined with the fact that one more year to see what hawk can truly give you, see if he has improved, and he could eventually become CJ‘s replacement. Now a year or two down the road, you have a great player in Hawk, potentially, plus a center that can be better than Kessler in one of the young guys that we have. Seems like a good reason to not pull the trigger on this trade this year.

I haven’t figured out how to quote on here from my phone but to respond to the last two posts. I think you basically took the 2nd half of my post and ignored the first because I told you exactly why I think he’s struggling in summer league.
And for the follow up post, exactly, 118 minute sample size is lol, you can’t draw any conclusions from that especially given the quality of play from everyone on the court, no offense to them, but it’s not the same as an nba game.
Looking forward to the season.

I say it’s just summer league and there’s way too many overreactions going on, same thing we did last year with Hawk as someone previously eluded to. The team element and overall play is terrible from mostly everyone, and it’s hard to get into any rythm when you’re being asked to do things that the team wants you to specifically work on, teammates can’t give you a good pass, set good screens, everyone is disjointed, etc etc. some guys are going to do better than others in those types of games, but Hawk thrives when he is surrounded by good players, which is what we saw last year with the team when given the opportunity.
To me he looks a little more bulked up, and he looks better on D than last year. We all know the shooting is there. I’m not personally worried in the least from 4 summer league games.

Is it possible Trey is somehow getting traded tonight/tomorrow and that’s why he’s not playing?
Agreed, this is the issue. Seeing bucks griffin getting fired after being 30-13 gave me hope lol.
No one is saying he’s going to become these hall of famers, everyone is just saying he has the Potential to become that. He’s got the “it” factor, his BBQ is very advanced for a rookie, he has supreme confidence for a rookie that doesn’t seem to get derailed by DNPs or a g league trip, he’s an incredible movement shooter, he’s got an ultra quick release, he’s shown that he can get to his spot off the bounce and get his own shot, he’s shown flashes that he can drive.
It’s ok to think that he can get there, nothing wrong with that. The fans are excited, that’s the fun part of being a fan, dreaming of what a guy could become that’s exciting.

“This isn’t a game to complain about Hawkins minutes- everyone played like shite today. Hawkins didn’t do anything great.”
It was me responding to the complaint that Willie took him out after 5 4th quarter minutes in which he was starting to get hot. Why sub that guy out when no one else is scoring? That’s the basic coaching things I question with him. That’s what I was referring to.

Watching suns broadcast and they are APPALLED that Hawk got subbed out.
Its moves like this that really make me question what exactly Willie is doing. Like he literally can’t interpret even the most basic things going on in the game. I don’t think he’s the answer, I really don’t. I’m not sure if a coach has gotten fired after finishing the season like 10 games above 500 but he should be the first.

That’s what we were saying when he started the season blazing too. There’s no way he will fall out of the rotation right? Well, Willie found a way to make it happen. Sad, Willie sucks.
quote:
For a short span he had reached top 5 betting odds to win rookie of the year. He was showing no signs of slowing down. We knew his minutes would drop when Trey came back but there was zero reason to cut his minutes completely, he was playing way too good. Sometimes common sense should come into play instead of a flawed =/- stat.
This is spot on, and exactly what my wife and I were talking about. There was NO way he would get his minutes cut completely, right? He’s playing way too good! Willie will find minutes for him!
Nope, nope, and nope. Sad to see, especially because in my humble opinion they could desperately use him. Almost feels like management and Willie aren’t on the same page.
Call me optimistic here, but maybe this is to have Hawkins get a game or two under his belt with the Squadron in anticipation of a bigger role when he returns, as opposed to inserting him back in the rotation cold? Probably optimistic

I wasn’t t sure what thread to post this in, but this was very eye opening and confirms what many of the posters here have been screaming from the mountain tops. How does upper management not see this? Or are they letting Willie do it his way? So infuriating…
