This is kind of a big deal that needs its own thread I think.

Griff: Zion misspoke, "being 'healthy physically' doesn't mean he's cleared to play basketball, he was playing one on none. A windmill dunk in warm-ups doesn't mean he can play 5 on 5 skilled bball"

Said Zion was never cleared to play basketball by our staff.

I mean, I imagine part of being cleared by the training staff is the player's description of how he feels when attempting to return from injury

That is to say: if the training staff follows the normal timeline with Zion, everything looks good to their eye test, whatever biometric data they use checks out, and he says "something still feels off"...would they clear him? Doubtful.

Seems like Griff is likely technically correct with his statement...even if we all know it completely misses the point.

His full explanation lined up with what they've been saying.

Zion wasn't "comfortable" with certain moves, that's the not feeling like Zion because of fear of injuring his hamstring again, so he wasn't cleared to go to the next step of ramping up.

Occams razor says this is the answer and all of the other conspiratorial stuff we've been talking about isn't.

That being said, unless there's some biomechanical reason that his hesitancy will likely lead to reinjury, like he's over compensating with other body parts, I don't see why you don't adjust your protocols and power through considering what was on the line.

Hannagriff had an interesting take on br loca radio Thursday. He said he believes that Zions hamstring is good but the team has clauses in his contract that say he can’t play if he’s over a certain weight because of risk of injury and that’s what’s happening. It would also explain the dunk contest he threw down before the game Wednesday as kind of a “frick you I CAN play at this weight” shot at the organization

Zion comes off as really dumb and unprofessional during his interviews so I wouldn’t be surprised Griff is telling the truth but who knows with this team

What Griff said doesn't rule out that he's simply not in basketball shape which doesn't contradict anything Zion said. His hammy could be 100% fine right now, but he's not in shape to play. There is no lie there.

Andrew Lopez was on After Further Review radio yesterday and said he watched Zion warming up and did not think he was at a place physically where he could give you 5 minutes a quarter. So essentially, he's not in basketball shape.

How can anyone believe this? No sports league on the planet is more player dominated than the NBA. Stars run the roost. If Zion wants to play he would play.

The idea that Zion wants to play but is letting his name and reputation be steamrolled by . . . the New Orleans Pelicans . . . is nuts.

That is really sad if true
