[Ganguli]Here's a breakdown of what's going on with the timing of the AD trade. While the Pelicans are open to moving back the date of execution, that's going to depend on whoever has the No. 4 pick being willing to wait that long. A tough ask that doesn't seem likely.

Trading the pick seems like the best move now possibly

Why? Why help the lakers build a contending squad?

Ganguli is a Lakers daily beat writer.

I doubt she knows our thought process.

And I’m sure we are willing. For a large price.

Yea.

Moving that pick becomes extremely difficult if we don't get the deal done on the 6th.

This seems like a leak signalling we're willing to push it back...for a price.

We can move things back but, from all indications, it costs us a $10m trade exception and the ability to play the #4 pick in the Summer League.

If the Lakers want to move back the trade, they only gain about $3m in cap space (due to the 120% hold for the #4 pick) and it will likely cost them more assets to undo their screwup

I don’t see why the Pelicans do it for any reason. You can’t allow them to create a super team. Our future picks depends on it.

Look, we aren’t reasonable here. Trade us Kuzma, first round picks and swaps alternating every other year until say, 2029 and we agree to do it on the 30th.

We can’t do anything else with firsts because we are out to the limit of 7 years covered under the CBA.

Seconds and other players? That we can talk about.

You’re twisting my arm here. Swaps until 2035 and Kuzma.

I'd rather screw their chances at a max slot than get even MORE compensation from them. What else could they give us? Somebody's first born or something? We need them to be awful, so I'm not trying to help them in anyway.

I think they negotiated this and the Pels will push back the date if they don’t trade #4 and the Lakers need them to do so. I think perhaps the Lakers will send cash our way for the effort.

Why? What benefit does it have for the Pelicans? You’re essentially handing the Lakers max player money. I’ll be shocked if they even entertain this. The Pelicans have everything they want from the Fakers.

That’s probably why they gave us so many picks and swaps

They gave us all those picks because they refused to include Kuzma. This is an inexperienced GM who didn’t know the rules of the game and got burned for it.

They already gave them to us and didn’t make the date part of the deal. So tough shite

I wouldn't do it no matter what they try to sweeten the pot with. My guess is that they don't even answer the phone from anyone from the Lakers for the rest of the year.
