It really made no difference making that move at that point in time and a couple days later after the finals. You’re only hurting yourself by not waiting. Crazy how people like Joe still get jobs in today’s nba

I decided to not renew my 12 game weekend package (a few rows behind the Pels bench) as soon as they hired Dumars. These dumbass trades have destroyed any remaining interest I’ve had in the team.
It’s obviously an ownership issue with both the Pels and Saints. Both are becoming unwatchable and seem to be intentionally depleting their assets over the years.

Teams were already jockeying for the privilege to conduct the first trade with the Pelicans as more than one executive jokingly expressed to me that the Pelicans are going to be their first call.
Still waiting on those calls so we can trade Zion.

The trade doesn't happen with the protections. That's why the Hawks did it. It doesn't make sense for them to make the trade otherwise.
They didn't even negotiate down to no protections. It's just what Joe D decided to offer from the get go, like a dumbass.
I think just about any organization would have expected a team like the Pelicans to offer a 1st round pick with top 4 protections, which is still a really good 1st round pick b/c they know we'll likely end up top 10.

Glad many are coming around and realize Tom’s original plan with Rita was the key to prolonged success in NOLA.
I’ve long had it with Gayle which is why my fandom is ready to travel with the teams and new ownership. If that includes a move to Nashville or Las Vegas so be it.

Every team in the league makes the trade with the protections. We just gave it away because Dumars is dumb.

I'm going to keep defending it, until that pick hits top 3. I like having Queen on this team. I believe we are going to hit 30+ wins, which should make us a borderline bottom 10 team. So that pick could/should hit around #8-12. Yeah, it'll suck not having that selection. But it's not the end of the world.
Two weeks ago, you were claiming we wouldn't be in the lottery at all. Now we're gonna have the #8-12 pick. Give it another month and you'll be saying, "how many bottom five teams actually pick top 5?" This trade looks worse by the day, yet you keep defending it.

quote:That's all bull. They would not have turned that trade down with a top 4 protection. They were trading a "lottery pick" (2nd to last one) to go down 10 spots for a #1 next year likely to be a lottery pick. Queen was not a concensus top 10 pick. He was a very polarizing player. We gave up a top 4 protected 1st next year to get that #23 pick. I do not consider that all that cheap.

Think about it, they traded a lottery pick to drop out of the top 20. They could have had Queen, who was a projected top 10 pick (but fell a bit). Are you trading back for a 1st next season, that has almost no chance of landing top 5? You are basically getting a pick in the 20s (which you can get cheap) and a future pick that'll either land after #6 or in a future draft. Why would they do that?
It's an over pay. I'll grant that. But it doesn't happen otherwise. That's why you can't separate Queen from the trade. It's all connected..

Let’s not all forget also he traded the 2026 Pacers pick for #23
They’re 0-3 also
They’re 0-3 also

Like stranding the army on foreign shores with a commander they hate after burning the ships after landing.

quote:Absolutely they do. Heck the Grizzlies gave up a protected 2028 1st rounder and a 2nd to move up to 11 from 16. Dropping 10 spots for a top 3 protected pick is not kicking the can, it is gathering valuable future assets (not just moving up, they still keep their pick next year) AND still getting a player in 2025.
This is always the dodge. If I'm lying, do the Hawks trade back from #13 to #22 for a 2026 top-3 protected selection?
I do not think they do. It doesn't make sense for them to do that. You are basically just kicking the can to next year with the chance to move up 5-6 spots (or not get the pick at all)..

Wasn’t he in the 47 win crowd and playoff berth? The fans that find zero fault with any of Loomis or Dumars decisions are just comical and always fail to connect the failed owner/enabler.
In leagues that strive for parity and make it as easy as possible for quick recoveries from the bottom, you have to be some miserable at your job to be in the cellar multiple years.
The Saints and Pels are living that nightmare scenario out simultaneously.

Its because deep down they know it was stupid but wanted to cope or show blind loyalty to a billionaire who can care less that they exist and will do the bare minimum to get them buy their product.
But hey its all about being a "real fan" and loyal. Fandom is one of the dumbest things ever when you really think about it.
If you are gonna be a fan, at least be a fan of a business that actually gives a shite about the product and the people they employ.

We could be rebuilding with fears, Herb, Trey, Missi, two lottery picks in 2026, one likely to be top 5, whatever we get for Zion, and total cap freedom.
Instead we continue our long walk through the desert. Hear us, oh Lord Silver, we know not how we sinned.

We really are going to end up trading away the number 1 overall pick.
For a guy that if he pans out, will be somewhere in the Carl landry, Julius randle, David west range of player.

Gayle Benson is a terrible owner, so of course they hire a terrible GM. I'm glad I don't live in NOLA anymore, no Saints and Pels games on TV. Pels could've gotten a top pick next year but that's gone so I don't really see anything to look forward to there. Saints have some moves they can make along with a top pick upcoming and I can see a rebound next year, worst case 2027.

Dumars is going to trade Trey or Zion to get a 1st rd pick back but it won't be ours so what's the point
