re: Free agent acquisitions that make sense and realistic

Also, one thing I was told in passing--
If they sign another big, they think they might limit their ability to trade certain guys. One, the more minutes a guy is getting, the better his numbers look, the more other teams might value them. Also, the more you need a player, the more a team is willing to give for him and vice versa
I found that last point fascinating. Basically, the guy said that GMs look at a team like Boston and are willing to offer less for their guards than they would in a vacuum because they know Boston has tons of them and have to unload them. So, if we look like we don't need to unload Asik or Ajinca, we might get better offers
It's an interesting approach if your goal is to eventually offload those guys

Im ok with Asik and Ajinca playing the 20 to 25 min that AD isn't playing center so I would definitely be more focused on getting 2 wings with the hope one of them can play the 4 next to AD

Just look at Boston's failed trade attempts on draft day as proof. They have too many assets. Teams are just going to ask for the moon when negotiating with them.

Yep, so in theory, those of you hoping we dump Asik should probably hope we don't sign any bigs and Asik gets 20-25 mins next year and looks okay doing it
But then, if he is playing okay, will Dell have the guts to dump him? This was always the problem with Gordon-- when he was hurt or playing bad, he had no value. When he had a little bit of value (like last offseason), Dell didn't want to move him because he felt he was a plus.
With Asik, he's gotta be cold. Get his value to a place where he can dump him without having to give up assets, and then let him go-- no matter how well he is playing at that moment

Wizards reportedly setting there sights on Ryan Anderson.

With 3 years on Morris contract? Okay, do you Washington.

what do you guys think about Mo Harkless?

I like him, but I like Hill more and he's probably a bit cheaper.

With Anderson being an UFA, is there any possibility of a sign and trade?
Posted on 6/27/16 at 7:30 pm to pleading the fifth
Nah, the teams who are looking to sign him have cap space.

I'm not sure if it's been stated but according to Brett Dawson the Pels expect Gee to opt in. Nothing confirmed yet.

His agent is still sniffing around, seeing if they might get a decent multi-year deal, so they are gonna push the opt in date back. Pels don't care either way, they just want him to do whats best for himself

Anderson will get paid Kings, Wiz, and Rockets are going to be fighting for him.

I don't think he's getting that 20 mil that's been floated around, unless it's a one or two year deal.
Posted on 6/27/16 at 8:34 pm to BallHawk
I don't mind if he opts in. He would be a super cheap vet wing player at the end of the bench

Obviously not but I think he nabs 18

That makes sense, which is why I thought bringing back Asik AND Ajinca last year was a bit of a head scratcher.
Whatever happens, this gets back to the problem of having too many holes and not enough ways to improve. Really just want them to avoid signing more short combo guards and slow 5s.

This year. Which is why Win Now is bad. In theory we have 4 future starters on the roster now in Jrue/Buddy/AD/Diallo. You still might need to change/upgrade Holiday, but wouldn't it be nice if they could look at that as the core and have a multiyear vision to build around those 4?
Posted on 6/28/16 at 8:50 am to TigerinATL
It would be nice if they thought that way. You think they are or do you think they'll be forced to b/c of FA misses?
I'm not ready to count 2 rookies, one a 2nd rounder, as core pieces, but the ideas they represent both for on-court product and team building philosophy are a nice change of pace from what we've seen.

Man listening to national guys is super depressing.
Basically all saying why bother going after FAs, just bring back Gordon, Anderson and Cole because we can't do better, Hield has no upside, etc etc etc.
Makes me pissed listening to this crap.
