Guess the Bulls watched some Asik highlights and got cold feet.

Why? There was probably never a real deal. You guys are trusting a random reporter from Chicago.

I wonder if there is a health issue here...maybe concerns about Asik with his Crohn's or whatever he has?

Chicago and New Orleans don't need Mirotic's permission to make trade should his $12.5M team option in 2018-19 get guaranteed with a trade. Without that salary guaranteed prior to finalizing trade, teams need Mirotic to agree. Otherwise, Mirotic likely becomes a rental for Pels.

The Mirotic/Asik deal straight up would not have worked because of the hard cap situation in New Orleans. The Pelicans are $1.2M below the hard cap. Mirotic has a salary of $12.5M and Asik $10.6M. Both players have $1M in unlikely bonuses.

So the Pels don't want to commit long term, so Mirotic needs give permission deal. Either they are waiting on that or he won't give it because wants a guarantee for next year

I wonder if they had to pick up the team option to prevent a potential veto by Miroticic.

Sounds like this is a deal that could still get done with some further negotiation and the Pels sending out another player.

Pels essentially need to guarantee him his contract for next year, to start.

With Woj implying a Mirotic Veto without a guarantee being the issue, I'm guessing the Pels move on to Plan B. They could still end up coming back to Plan A, but without the team option you have to dump Ajinca and Moore next year to avoid the tax. Or I suppose you could trade Mirotic. If he plays well it shouldn't be too hard.
