The Bubble reinforced my view that only 2 things that matter in the next 2-3 years.

- Maximizing the development of Zion/Ingram
- Finding a lead guard

What we saw in the Bubble

- Giannis as lead guard wasn't good enough, which says Ingram/Zion as the team's lead creators probably won't be good enough either.
- LeBron/AD and a bunch of scrubs and misfits steamrolled most of the league. LeBron is unique but he's also a creator like AD has never had before. Rondo also played a pretty pivotal role in the playoffs.
- I have also seen questions if the Lakers winning with size signals a shift back towards needing more size after everyone has shifted to smaller ball.

Agree, disagree? Any other observations?

Its hard to know just how much the bubble, lack of fans, etc affected things and if it was just a total anomaly.

I STILL think shooting matters as much as anything, and I still think that a lead guard that can pull up off the dribble and smash shots like that matters to this team a lot.

Yeah, agreed, that is the drum I have been pounding. In particular as I said a guy that has gravity off the dribble. Suck teams in with that and distribute to interior creator like Zion or a guy with an insane midrange game like BI.

It is just hard to tell if this is a total outlier or not. I find it hard to say that Bubble results will match outside of Bubble results.

Don't get me wrong, the Lakers having two top 5 players makes them hard to deal with no matter what and a worthy champ...

But I just don't know if we see all of the results play out like they did with fans, travel, etc.

We definitely need an Alpha point guard.

While Chris Paul doesn’t match up with our timeline, he would elevate our team a ridiculous amount for the next couple of years.

Also, how does a healthy GS slot into this season? Do they take out LAL?

They are certainly a factor, but they need to turn that #2 pick into either an All-Star potential player or some real depth.

They didnt' win with size.
Howard played pretty much 15 mpg in 4 of the games, not at all last night, and 8 minutes in another. He averaged 19 during the regular season.
Javele didn't play at all the entire series, and got less and less minutes against Denver. He was only seeing 10-12mpg anyway in the playoffs, some games a good bit less than that. He averaged 17 during the regular season.

I agree with everything else you said. We need a good lead guard, and i'm hoping that comes via the draft, Kira Lewis, Tyrell Terry, Tyrese Maxey.

Having a lead/pg that can penetrate in the lane when the half court offense breaks down is critical.

More like we need an AD stopper lol

Ohm Youngmisuk: The rout was on after starting AD at center. But when Anthony Davis was the lone big for the Lakers in the Finals, they outscored the Heat by 61 points. At any other point (with or without AD on the floor), the Lakers were outscored by 28 per

This was a season of Duo. No real Big 3 anywhere.

And LA had two top 5 players.

I’d kill to somehow draft one of those create and score guards that occasionally come late in the lottery
Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell, SGA, Klay Thompson, CJ McCollum, Paul George
All these drafted from 10-16 recently. Just hoping we strike gold somehow

A ball handling wing is still the most important player for any championship team.

small groups can get together and practice safety and not expose one another.

BBall team and staff etc, is not massive.

Football and baseball is struggling - more people.

Agree with you. I learned the importance of a good half court offense come playoff time and realizing Lonzo isn’t and may never be a good enough PG to lead the half court offense.

And we do need more size you’re right about that as well. Especially off the bench.

Whattttt? Good for you.

I love Lonzo, but yeah, he IS NOT what this board wants him to be.

He may develop into a Rubio or Rondo type if he can be wayyy more consistent.

Things played out perfectly for Lebron and the Lakers. I don't think there's any chance they win it all if covid/the bubble hadn't happened. Lebron was resting major minutes in every game. I just cant see that happening in a normal season's playoffs, if the best teams hadnt been thrown off by the long break. Lebron didn't have to travel, play extended minutes or get into long, hard fought series on his way to the finals this year. All things that greatly benefitted him.

Let's be honest, the Clippers were the team to knockout the Lakers but the time off really hurt them and their rhythm, so they got bounced by Denver. The Bucks losing like they did also threw a wrench in everything. They were dominate before the shutdown. I think if everything played like a normal season, Clippers and Bucks make the finals and Clippers win. Clippers beat the Lakers almost everytime(or was it everytime?) they played this year, before covid. Clippers were their kryptonite, but Denver's miracle run in the bubble prevented us from seeing it.

I think this is the last ring Lebron will ever win, unless he joins another ready made team after he's done in LA. If we have another full season next year, after a shortened off-season, Lebron wont be the same guy.

As for the Pels, we need a lead guard that can run the half court offense. Its painfully obvious at this point. We have no one outside of Jrue who can even attempt to run it effectively. Lonzo isnt the answer, trade him now while there's still value. Get a Kira Lewis type at 13 and get a stretch big with the MLE(Kelly Olynyk maybe?)

If we can trade Lonzo for #8, use that to take Nesmith, Vassel, or another 3+D wing.

the most important skill Zion needs to work on is driving and free throws. I'd rather him become an 80% free throw shooter than working on 3s

I think that are more lessons to be learned from the Heat than there are from the Lakers. I mean the Lakers have two of the league's best players and lucked out in getting the Clippers to choke and fail to make the conference finals -- it's no surprise that they won.

The teams in the East with the most talent were the Bucks, Celtics, 76ers, and Raptors, and yet, the Heat emerged ahead of them to make the Finals. They did it with an offense that emphasized shooting and cutting, and they did it with heart and intensity.

The Heat got to the Finals because they had a leader who held everyone on the team accountable and everyone bought in. When I look at "what do the Pels need," that's what I saw in the bubble that we needed.
