Good point. The problem is historically some team out there is willing to overpay.

Does he have a player option? If so, I still bet he sticks around.

No one knows about Gray. The only thing we've heard about him is he's been working out in NOLA.

Yeah, I think he has a player option. I saw something about it on that show final play on fox 8 last night.

Are there options for us in free agency if we end up not retaining west?

not really a big surprise. He just wants to test the market and see what he can get.

That's presumably a big part of why they traded Thornton of Landry, in case they couldn't keep West. I think if West goes to the Nets then Kris Humphries coming to the Hornets makes a lot of sense and Landry/Humphries is decent combo at PF. Demps would have to deliver a scorer on the wings to make up for losing West though.

What are the chances the hornets try to negotiate a new contract and keep him? If they lose west, they might lose paul also.

Option 1- Sign Carl Landry. I don't really like him as a starter but you've seen him play well and fit in with the team quickly.

DWest not being a big leaper or slasher will help his case with that injury. He's basically a jumpshooter so he can market himself as such.

Hate all you want but its gonna be hard for us to find another 20-10 guy as cheap as DWest.

Agreed. This has bad contract written all over it.

What a dick. After all this organization has done for him. After he nearly ruined CP3s career. He owes the Hornets.

Gray is almost certain to opt out as well. And he is almost just as certain to resign with the Hornets.

It has nothing to do with the Hornets.
West and Gray would both be severely underpaid next year if they picked up their player options.

It's a no brainer for each of them.

All you can do is hope for a reasonable CBA and an actual new owner in the next few months. I still think both are a distinct possibility.

Not a chance there is a new CBA in the next few months. The NBA negotiations are alot worse than the NFLs and you see how long those are taking.

If West leaves then I say we let Emeka play some PF, he's an undersized center anyways. That way you just re-sign Gray, maybe get a little more depth down low, and add a decent SG and we won't be bad off.

Kind of irrelevant. West can't sign with other teams until there is a new CBA, whether it takes, weeks, months or a whole year.

Looks like we'll get a large trade exception from Joisey after they overpay West.

Who is on our PF shopping list, under the assumption we can resign Landry as a stop-gap fix if we can't get who we really want?

As long as it isnt us.

Keeping emotions out of it, a younger Landry at half the price and slightly less production isnt bad.

We can spend the $10 million West will get on an NBA claiber SG.

Landry + a legit SG > West/Landry + Belinelli

Thank God!!!! He was the Jamal Mashburn, Baron Davis of this organization. The dude can play but he no longer fits into our style of play.

Besides, we would need to lose him for Dwight Howard anyways!
