Yeah I feel there are valid points on both sides of the argument. But I would say that I'm in the waiting until may 16th camp. This is honestly the biggest decision the team has ever had to make as far as how much getting THIS right sets us up for the future. The move that could help finally make the organizational side of things respectable. I wouldn't let impatience make me take a lesser candidate.

And also how many job openings are gonna be available this year? I haven't done the research yet but the only team I keep hearing about that are actively looking for a POBO/GM are the Suns. And They're a bigger dumpster fire than us with an owner nobody seems to like. If that's our competition we can actually win that one.

Point being I don't THINK there will be a lot of job openings this year (could be wrong) so we can afford to be patient because I don't see a lot of teams that could steal any particular POBO/GM that we are looking at. The B and A+ candidates will still be there on May 16, so why not wait until you're in a position to see if you can lure an A+ GM?

As far as the people I like for the job...

1. Zarren (only worry I have is if Knicks get 1 2 or 3 in the draft, I'd hope he wouldn't automatically value the Celtics deal as the better deal because of being partial to his own players. As in if Knicks get the number 2 pick in the draft, would he take Morant, Robinson, DSJ, Knox, Trier, and the Dallas picks? Or would he be partial to the Celtics Tatum package? I love Tatum, but I'd take the Knicks deal. And I'm 50/50 on if the Knicks get the 3rd pick (Barret). So that's my only worry with Zarren.)

2. Hinkie (I just think he'd have enough clout and he's smart enough to truly make the changes necessary for the organization side of things.)

3. Griffin (not as high on him, but I do feel like he'd have the clout to change things)

And the one that's not an A+ that I'd take a chance on is Langdon. I like what I've been seeing out of Brooklyn, and a lot of people give him a lot of credit for it. So I'd be happy with him as my B level hire.

Long post over.

I hear you, but if you have your guy before then, then go get him.

Do the interviews, stretch them out if no one is wowing you or prepared to take the job.

But if you think you've found your guy just go get him regardless of timing.

And THAT I agree with. IF you have the person you TRULY want then go with it and hire now. But my post was more along the lines of if we WANT one of the A+ ones, don't settle right now for a B. Zarren for example. Let's say that's our guy. He's our number 1 choice. But right now he's undecided on taking the job here right this second. Now let's say Langdon is ready to take the job right this second but he's not your TOP choice. I'd rather wait to see if we can lure in Zarren because he sees we can get Zion or Morant.

Like I said earlier, both sides have valid points. But I just fall on the side to try and get the best of the best even if that means waiting. Because of the importance of of this decision. We HAVE to get this right.

We all agree with that. Again, if you have a guy atop your list and you know he will take the job regardless, love him up immediately.

But there is no debate that more people will want the job if Zion is a part of the future than if he isn't. So, don't rush it. Don't force a guy to the top of your list just because you know you can get him and you might not be able to get the guy who would really top your list if you truly could get anyone

Again, I think you think we are disagreeing on this but everyone is basically in agreement. The wording of the arguments are just slightly different but the core is essentially the same

Today @PelicansNBA owner Gayle Benson said the franchise will soon look at 5-6 candidates for the GM job. Talking to multiple @NBA sources I trust, I think four of the people Gayle is referencing (under consideration) are:
Danny Ferry
David Griffin
Trajan Langdon
Gersson Rosas

Rosas is a name we’ve never discussed on here. Rockets VP.

Rosas, a native of Bogota, Colombia, has been with the Rockets for 16 seasons. During that time, he also had a three-month stint as general manager of the Dallas Mavericks in 2013 before returning to the Rockets in his current role. The right-hand man of Rockets general Daryl Morey, Rosas is involved in all player personnel moves. He was instrumental in the trading of Tracy McGrady for draft picks and assets that were later used to acquire James Harden. An American citizen, Rosas has also been the international player personnel scout for USA Basketball’s men’s national team since 2015.

Yeah, I've been reading about him and really like the resume, and I respect the hell out of Morey so if he is trusted by him that's a good sign. But what is this:

all about?

Just read an article on it. Looks like it was not a good fit with Donnie Nelson who was the POBO at the time. Thought he was going to have more control and basically didn't, so he left and went back to work under Morey. Apparently Cuban begged him to reconsider but he declined.

He had multiple interviews with the Sixers and Hornets last year.

Can you talk about the challenge of finding the next GM opportunity?

The challenge is just finding the right opportunity at the right time. And it’s a two-way street. It’s not just from the team side, but it’s from my side. I think a lot of it is you want to be linked up philosophically, you want to be aligned with an ownership group, with a front-office group, with a coaching group, with a playing group, where you can execute your vision, and that’s what I am looking for. I hope to find that opportunity.

From what I gather, he wanted to take a Darryl Morey approach with the Mavs and Donnie Nelson simply was not having it.

Cgrand, I would start a new thread with those names in the title. Might get more discussion going.

Griffin and Rosas intrigue me. Rosas would be a home run hire with learnings from Morey

All this great conversation about what is the biggest decision this franchise has to make and the ONLY thing you took from this thread is that I might be some guy from the past?

Sad.
