Gayle Benson said the outside consultant that the club is using to run the Pelicans GM search has recommended 5-6 candidates who the club will consider for the open position. She said she and Dennis Lauscha will make the hire, with consultation from Mickey Loomis.

Loomis also no longer will have official role with Pels:

Gayle Benson also reiterated that Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis will focus exclusively on the Saints going forward. The new Pelicans GM will oversee basketball operations and report directly to Benson.

Loomis also no longer will have official role with Pels:

except for when he's busy acting as a "consultation" on hires to make and such like he's done before....

oh man, wave the perception flag proudly bunchie.

For as shitty as Loomis has been with the Pels, rooting for him to stay on with the NBA side is a weird flex.

Well, if the rumors of Loomis and Lauscha getting a piece of ownership stake in the Pels when Tom died is true, then he should have input...

Gayle also trusts his input alot

I really didn't want to go down this road, and I really hope that Chad isn't successful in derailing this thread but...

Loomis wasn't shitty with the Pels. He was nothing, which it me in some ways was worse.

He was the damn President of Basketball Operations, which for all other teams, is a significant title with significant responsibilities. But he admitted he basically did nothing. It created confusion and a perception that the ownership only gave a shite about the Saints.

Perception matters in sports a great deal.

Even if his role is essentially the same (aka a consult of Gayle), but he has no title, that is a marked improvement.

Let basketball people run basketball and let football people run football.

Have dedicated staff (medical, training, and otherwise) that solely focus on each. Act as if it is not the same owner owning both.

Just consider him a minority owner. He should have never been named POBO in the first place, but he needed to have soemthign to do and Tom wanted to pay him a salary during his bountygate suspension.

So Pels are going from one GM to another GM.

Loomis' perception is being removed (yet he's still an active side voice of the owner).

Gayle publicly states that position reports to ownership. YAY.

I've just always have stated that the "loomis" problem has been severely overstated and bunchie admits its a perception problem and gets mad when i call it such.

It was deeper than simply a perception problem, it was an organizational problem.

I have never had a problem with Loomis being a "Special Advisor to the Owner" or whatever.

Gayle trusts him. He is basically a de facto owner. I have no problem with that at all. Mickey is a sharp guy.

Not really. Loomis was helping Tom make organizational decisions which is not that absurd given their relationship and trust.

No one has a clue but we can probably make educated guesses on at least 2-3.

Hate to be a stickler, but you can't recommend 5-6 people. You can recommend 5. Or 6. But not 5-6

Have a strong feeling they already had their person and/or list and this outside firm thing is all for show

My thought on that is that either Gayle didn’t remember if it was 5-6 or really didn’t want to give an exact amount so was being vague.

Loomis is locked into the inner circle, as are Lauscha and Bensel(although Greg generally handles communication only. He can write in complete sentences)
Gayle trusts Loomis. Nothing really wrong with that. He’s a loyal guy. He found his destiny and fortune in NOLA. As you all know, Lauscha is the financial guy, and has performed well.

How do people still not understand what a search firm does? They look to quietly find the best candidates that are interested in the job. If they are saying 5-6, then it’s likely that 1 may not take an interview.

I get you have always been team Dell and anti-ownership, but who do you think made their list/identified their candidate if they didn’t use the consultants?

I think you are wrong about it being a facade.
