closing lineup of Smart, Jrue, Hayward, Tatum and Randle could give teams fits
If Hayward is back, then I can't imagination Celtics giving up both Tatum and heyward and plural picks.
I'm ready to be amazed.
See, Davis could walk after a season.
This may be boogie again. Pels gave up a first rounder and a nice shooter for a season.
I'm shaking my head.

the Celtics with Davis and Irving and Hayward would be a tax team from the word go.
they also have to decide what to do about horford who has been their stealth MVP since he got there. how are they going to re sign Davis with Irving’s new deal on the books plus Hayward and possibly horford?
call me retarded but I think they jump at the chance to move Hayward for Davis

Sure and Boston's #1, but not the long list of starters and multiple picks some project.
I'm done with this topic until the lotto balls are done.

Any way we can fast forward to August and leave this crap behind.

BOS playoffs start today vs Indiana
what would you rather see?
1) Celtics bounced in the first round
2) Celtics make it to the ECF and fall short again
I can go either way. It may not even matter as the offer for Davis is pretty cut and dried as far as players. MAYBE griffin can squeeze a 2022 pick from Boston? Maybe get Williams thrown in?

Playoffs will be where Tatum and Brown will shine.

I agree especially on brown with smart out.
the question is do we want them so shiny?

ECF and fall to Milwaukee with Irving and Hayward shining, Tatum and Brown not so much

They need to get at least to the second round. Gotta show potential, but not enough that they think who they have will be enough for the future

Imho
If Kyrie and heyward shine the Celtics win it. The rest of the team is solid.

Which would you guys prefer if say these were the two packages:
A) Smart, Tatum, filler, and 3 1sts for AD
B) Hayward, Tatum, and 4 firsts for AD and Hill
Let's say the additional first is the Kings pick (#14)
Salary wise, Smart has 3/36 left on his deal. Hayward has 2/66, with the 2nd year being a player option. With Hill, you are offloading 1/12. So basically, you add 6 mil in salary this upcoming year with Hayward vs Smart and Hill.
I think the knee jerk reaction is to go Smart. But I struggle to see his fit with Jrue, whereas I really like the Hayward-Jrue-Tatum fit, even if Hayward only gets back to 85% of his former self. Besides, what are we gonna do with the extra money short term? I can honestly go either way. Which would you guys choose?

Option B for me
I think Hayward will get better with time. I’m not super high on Smart.

For me it's this one very easily, and i love Marcus Smart.
I believe Hayward will return to form, and he needs a change of scenery to help with that.
If you said the Smart trade had 4 firsts and the Hayward trade had 3, I'd still go with Hayward.
The potential with Hayward is so much higher than with Smart. I'd love to take the chance on him.

If we could get Hayward and Tatum while grabbing 3 or more picks and our own, we have a high ceiling. We would only need a Center, PG, and a quality bench. Plus we would have several picks and decent cap space to work with.

Do you have an idea of any high caliber players that David Griffin would target this free agency or will we have to wait til we know what package we receive for AD? In other words, does Griffin have enough power to lockdown any free agents that could influence the package for an AD trade or will the trade be the base for how we rebuild?

I’ve been all in on getting Hayward from the beginning.
Next years team and maybe the next one after that are going to struggle to score.
Also Hayward is a solid citizen and seems like he’s got above average intelligence...and that’s not code language for “white”. I’m tired of being a fan of and caring about players who are too dumb to be present and accountable or to be able to communicate with the team without crisis actor drama
Hayward checks the boxes for a guy I’d like to see the team build around along with Jrue Holiday and an up and comer like Tatum. The draft picks are window dressing, for me

Real impact free agents wouldn't happen this summer.
Griffin can talk up Gayle all day, but the league, the agents, etc will want to see it for a year first. Griffin knows that. But if he does build an amazing staff, gets top notch medical facilities and trainers, starts developing a clear culture, etc - then he could be in the convo for B level free agents (think Milsap when Denver signed him).
But the return for AD, along with their own picks and Jrue will be the foundation of this team

I think I'd lean option 2, actually. I know that Hayward contract is huge but its pretty short term. You'd have two wings for the first time in...ever, to pair with Jrue. You have some work to do, getting a primary ball handler and an athletic big, but its a good start.

We have a couple draft picks, and we need to see where they land first, but i'd love to draft Cobe White.
Jrue can initiate an offensive play, so can Tatum, and so can Hayward. quick pace, good ball movement as well as smart off ball player movement can negate the need for a true ball dominant PG when you have enough offensive weapons.
