I like this point you made in the comments of 24/7.
I wasn't aware of that until I posted in the other thread. This is a huge thing mate, it could save us the $3 mill or so from teams not bothering to offer EG10 now.

This trade could keep other teams from throwing offers at Gordon. With so much cap space, the rest of the NBA may assume that the Hornets are willing to match any offer, making it a poor idea to tie up cap space in a player that they probably won’t get while the best free agent alternatives are snatched up by other teams. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out, but ultimately, this trade likely increased the odds of Gordon remaining a Hornet.

$16-18 Million is a ton of money, I don't care how rich you are.
Exactly, there's a reason why you don't see NBA teams go out and amnestying guys with 20-30 million dollar contracts.

I love the trade, but why not keep Lewis for the season or at least until the trade deadline? He can back-up the 3 and 4, plus he is a good shooter (something the Hornets need). I've always heard he is a solid pro and good locker room guy. Just seems like a good guy for the team..

Because you have to buy him out by July 1, saving $10 million. He is not $10 million good in any shape or form

4 paragraphs on the Hornets, 9 on the Wizards. But who is counting.

SI on the trade... Sports Illustrated
Bascially an article on the Wiz and what the trade means for them. It didn't bring up the possibility of resigning Landry or Kaman or what the 10th pick might be.

Well the Wizards are the ones who made the illogical decision in this deal, trying to figure out what they are thinking could take months

I wonder if Benson possibly just didn't want to fork out the cash it would have taken to amnesty Okafor, and preferred this Lewis buyout option instead. Could very well not be the case, but it's entirely possible
Demps probably preferred this option because he might be able to buy a 1st now. Pay $18 million to amnesty Okafor and dump Ariza for a 2nd, or pay $14 million to dump them on Washington for a 2nd, buy a late 1st for $3 million, and have $1 million left over.

@hornets247 For those of you asking for trade for trade grades: Hornets get a C, Wizards get an F. Both teams would have been better off using amnesty
how many hacks write for this site? They seemed giddy over this trade earlier.
is it a different person now tweeting?
McNamara wrote this earlier:
quote:
With this trade, the deck has been cleared and the Hornets move forward with young guys on cheap contracts, two top ten picks, and the ability to retain Eric Gordon. The foundation is in place and Dell has gotten into an unbelievably flexible position where he can go in any direction he chooses.
Can’t wait to see the next move.
now all of a sudden its a C and there were better options?
lulz

correct me if i am wrong, but Mason Ginsberg, Michael MacNamara and Jake Madison were the interns at WDSU that Fletcher Mackel had write columns on the Hornets as a final project for their internships?
all this was just recently i believe

Or the Lewis contract gives you 2 weeks to swing a bigger deal. This isn't over. Think Pau Gasol or Rudy Gay, guys on teams that are capped out and maxed out on winning potential. A guy like Joe Johnson, but Hornets arent that dumb

"Fletcher Mackel's intern" is a pretty impressive thing to have on a resume, so it's no surprise that they quickly found legit jobs.
