I have a thread brewing in my head about this.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel for this if Zion/BI can't come through next year and I just want a solid top 4-6 team in the West for a while.

I think good aspirations for most small market teams are the Stockton/Malone Jazz. No you can't keep a duo together that long these days, but I'm talking about being a mid tier playoff team that can make the finals if they get the right bounces one year. The Grit and Grind Grizzlies were similarly a mid tier team that nobody wanted to play in the playoffs. I have no problem with people that would take a lower ceiling to have a higher floor.

That being said, fans tend to get spoiled and after enough mid tier success most would be ready to fire everybody to take that next step up.

I think for teams like us you just have to hope for Denver this year and Bucks championship. That you can keep an MVP and there’s no super team the year you win.

Super teams are going to be a thing of the past now with the new CBA

Same. IDGAF if he knocks up 20 hookers. As long as he stays healthy and in shape and plays ball for the Pels, I want him on my team. Hell, maybe having more kids is a good thing. They’ll take food out of his mouth

That’s why Suns traded for that bad Beal contract. Teams with money will still do it. They’ll just figure new ways to. It’s small market teams that now have no way to do it.

The CBA changes almost always create loopholes and unintended consequences, but that 2nd apron seems pretty hardcore in terms of team building limits.

What are people’s thoughts on if the Pels trade package for Zion ended up being

Pick 3(Brandon Miller), Shaedon Sharpe, and Simons

Keep in mind that you could perhaps flip Simons or CJ for a better fit in a separate deal or make it a 3 teamer.

This situation could arise if Charlotte picked Scoot or traded #2, to a team like the Magic or Raptors.

And if the Pels still wanted to move off of Zion for young talent and cap benefits.

That depends on how the new CBA treats the cap implications of vet mins, mixed with the number of vets willing to take one to get a title.

tempting but probably not. I like sharpe a lot but I’m not the highest on Simons and Miller.

For me it’s scoot or bust when it comes to trading any of our two stars. He’s the only guy I’d trade up for

Hard pass, not even if you add every future draft pick Portland has.

I’m only trading Zion for that if we’re guaranteed Scoot, and even then I would be hesitant.

Same. And I just don’t think Charlotte passes on him. Still, Sharpe+Scoot alongside BI and Trey can get me stiff

Kind of a logjam at the 2-3 spots when you already have Herb, Murphy and Ingram.
