Jaxson has a career per36 of 16pts 9rbs and 2.4 stocks (not awful for a guy that was a draft project). And yes, we all have seen some of the head scratchers and he seems to be a knuckle head, but here’s the thing….he’s a young lottery pick that has legit athleticism and size, and we don’t have anyone else to play the position.
The analogy is something like having a car with a great engine, good seats, and 3 wheels…no matter how much I like the seats, strapping an extra one of them to the axl hoping to replace that missing wheel won’t make a very good car…even a bald barely round tire will work better.

I think we all love Herb. He’s just an offensive black hole. Some of it isn’t his fault because our coaches are morons and sit him in the corner instead of using him as a screener.
But if he’s gonna sit in the corner majority of the time, he cant play

Dyson - Jose/Kira
CJ - Richardson
BI - Herb/Naji
Hayes - TM3
Val - Billy
I tend to defer to Coaches and staff, as they know the inner workings of the team much better than fans. However, with current injury predicament it’s perplexing why Hayes has not been in the rotation after success last year helping the Pels out of the winter funk.

I think Dyson, CJ, BI, Trey and Jonas is the answer, but we do need to ask more of Murphy. He has got to box out and rebound better, eliminate a lot of the over helping and over running on defense…..and shoot more.
But really what I feel this team has lacked is a guy that creates an advantage on offense. I love BI, and while he is a smart player that can pass, he’s much better at creating his own shot than others. Dyson can break a guy down, get a defender on his back pocket and body him out. He’s a good passer with a good line of sight at 6’8. He’s going to make rookie mistakes that will hurt, but he’s the answer of a guy that can be the missing “PG” while also replacing the much needed defense of Herb.

Herb hoisting up airball 3's in the 1st quarter is killing us the past few games. Also way too much iso ball, lack of sets.

I love Dyson's potential, but he is 100% not that guy yet...he is way ahead of schedule as an on ball defender moving his feet, but his per 36 of 8/6/4 on 44% shooting (and a below Herb 21% from 3pt in January) isn't going to work as a starting PG.
The Pels simply can't afford to keep rolling out non-shooters and hoping a miracle happens and the offense still works.
Plus Trey will get eaten alive by a big like Paolo...he does not have anything close to enough junk in the trunk to handle a guy that size.

Offensively, Dyson reminds me a shite ton of young Lonzo.
Not a good 3pt shooter, extremely hesitant to go to the rim and also hesitant to put up a shot at the rim.
Probably one difference is Zo would just never shoot at the rim whereas Dyson tries to avoid contact and puts up really bad shots at the rim.
He's like 19, so it's not a doom and gloom type post, just where he stands now. He's severely limited offensively despite being a solid passer.

I do NOT want to give the misconception that I think Dyson is ready. He’s not. But I think he’s the answer and I just assume we move on that direction.
And Dyson’s questionable shooting shows a bit differently if you put the ball in his hands ala Zion. By all means, back off and let Dyson get to the Ft line before meeting a defender. He’s going to be flanked by CJ, BI and Trey, not to mention Jonas.
And I’m also not proposing we just run every offensive set through Dyson. But I do think you run a good amount, stick to some of the similar Zion sets, and now you get away from the floating free defender and the dribble dribble of BI flanked by Herb.
And for what’s it’s worth, I think Herbs energy and disruptfulness(is that a word?) will show great from the bench.

Let’s ride
People act like the last 25 games of last season didn’t happen when we absolutely bullied people playing big boy ball.
The only sub I made from the lineup was Herb for Trey. Herb can still play. I just want Trey’s shooting in the starting lineup. It’s pretty obvious he’s not a bench player. He’s a guy that plays and shoots better in the starting 5.
Herb pretty much can’t shoot no matter what. We don’t need to preserve his pre game warm up rhythm.

My personal take is that sometime around or after the Break it is no longer time for development. It is time to play your best dudes. Now, maybe Dyson is our best dude and should start, but just pointing out we shouldn't play him solely for development purposes now, play him if you feel he deserves minutes.
My greater point is I think we missed opportunities earlier in the season when you do want to spend a bit more time developing guys. We probably didn't play Dyson as many minutes as he deserved, especially earlier in the season. But maybe not a huge deal, before he got hurt he was getting up over 20mpg on average.

That’s where I’m at. I think his defense is ready now, Herb without the fouling nor as much of the steal, tipped ball activity. But without Zion, our offense is what has really stagnated. And to me, it’s because of the lack of a point guard, true initiator. Dyson is going to make mistakes, but I don’t think any worse than Herbs negative impact on the offense as a whole. And while yes, it’s late in the season, ANY real pressure game reps are still only going to make Dyson better in any possible playoff/playin scenarios. It is what it is, Dyson is one of our five best players IMO, play him and get the reps you can.

Oh so we're just throwing this game away? Because from all I've seen, Dyson only gets minutes in garbage time now.
Bump.
