I want to thank Aaron Nelson for his excellence in athletic training! Through his leadership we have managed to have the 3rd most missed player minutes, and our two star players will be very well rested heading into the playoffs. Not sure how this franchise would manage without his amazing training staff leadership!

Aaron Nelson can’t make injury proned players more healthy, the same way Vinson can’t make crappy shooters hit 40%

Yeah, but you kind of can make them more healthy - making them do things like stretches that they make fun of CJ For doing.

You can’t force players to do something they don’t want to do. If you haven’t learned that about the NBA yet you should pay more attention.

They have to learn for themselves, and i can guarantee you with this injury Zion will look a little harder at the benefits of stretching before games.

Agreed. Just like KD, AD and Lonzo Ball.

Sure not his fault BI got a concussion, but the whole point of having a training staff is for muscle type injuries to not occur. Not doing too hot of a job on that front.

Based on what? 1 injury that nearly every player sustains in their career?

I don’t think anyone can make Zion play a full season. He’s really the only real injury prone guy on this team.

Nelson's conservative approach to everything is the reason our guys miss months with strains and pulls. Not saying Zion and Ingram aren't made of glass.

putting bubble wrap on them year round doesn’t help them.

Thats what im saying. If you're holding players out most of the season to avoid further injury what is the difference than if they had played and did get another injury. They still end up missing time. What happens if we brought zion back 15 games ago and he tore his hamstring? he would miss the rest of the season just like he already is by being cautious.

Another factor in this is that the players have to actually to listen to the trainers. Who knows if our guys are doing what they are supposed to be doing behind closed doors and not just when they are in the facility. Nelson has a reputation for a reason, but that doesn't mean he's a magician.

I think you are giving Zion way too much credit here.

This is his essentially 5th season derailing injury. He had 2 in his rookie year. His 2nd year was a thumb, but I still don’t think people realize how close we were to the playoffs that year. That injury did ultimately cost us a play in spot at the very least.

This new injury is likely not change anything in terms of his preparation or mindset imo. He’s just going to continue to be a 290 pound ticking time bomb player that inevitably gets injured and yo yo’s to 300 plus pounds while injured and because of it, takes double to triple the amount of time of his original injury timeline.

That’s just simply who he is at this point. He would have to significantly change for this to end and he’s not willing to. I thought he was in decent, playable shape this year. But even at that weight, he was 20 pounds heavier than his Duke form. It’s been 4 years and he still doesn’t understand how to optimize his play and time on the court. It’s concerning.

Knowing the name of the athletic trainer is never a good thing.

If we do get a new athletic trainer. I guess I’ll wait for ppl on this board to bitch about him/her when Zion is out for an extended period again.

I mean he has a fat clause for a reason, but to think he's >290 at this point is absurd. Dude came into the season pretty damn in shape, might not be duke-shape, but it was still far away the best we've seen him since then.

He suffered a hamstring tear, something that's bound to happen with overuse (his entire arsenal is either drive & dish or drive & hit a shot within 3ft)

We saw him at "300" and even reports of "330" and he's far from that right now.

Aaron Nelson reminds me of the years the Saints were at the Greenbrier for camp and always played like little bitches. As soon as we left those pink posh rooms behind we became Title Contenders? Coincidence? I think not.

The Pels should seriously fire the entire training and medical staff after this season.
